Haven’t really seen anybody talk about these or the problem they address, but I just installed a set of these in preparation of an A.R.E. canopy that’s on order. We all know of the flimsy and thin scenario that Ford had left us with under the factory bed rail caps and the near 1” void that’s left underneath these caps. Not exactly the best mounting situation for anything of substantial weight or load with vibration & bed travel/bounce/twist, etc. when off roading or even city & highway travel. The void & flex of the caps, to me, seem detrimental for bed racks, tonneau covers, and especially canopy weight distribution.
With recently putting in an order on an A.R.E. Revo canopy I couldn’t in good faith have it installed onto those mildly flimsy rail caps alone.
These were ordered through Buckle Up Off-road out of Florida and are made in house in FL. And I’ve gotta say I’m impressed! They fit perfectly and are ABSOLUTELY 100% trim flush to the top of the rail. In my opinion it seems like a better bet to at least have 3 phenolic mono-blocks running down each rail to help distribute the load down to the steel bed rail and into the box itself. Some of you may have differing opinions and that’s fine. Just putting this out there for those who are unaware these exist or were on the fence about them.
I actually showed these to the canopy joint that’s ordered my topper and they said they wish they would’ve known about these before and they might try and upsell sets to future Ranger sales. They also said they’ll make a point of clamping the canopy to the bed at the points of those mono-blocks which should really make it a stout install.
