Can I still install a tonneau cover without installing the J bracket?

Since the max weight that bed rails can hold is 88 Lb. Some of the retractable tonneau covers or diamondback weights are already over 90 Lb.

Thoughts? Thanks.

I believe you are fine to be honest. It's for extreme cases in off roading but if you want to be cautious, get them.

Thank you. I understand what you mean, but if 88 Lb is really the weight limit, and if my tonneau cover is only 90 Lb, it has reached the weight limit, since the tonneau cover will be on the bed rails for a long time, will my bed really be damaged after a long time? Again, I get angry every time I think about this J bracket.

If you are speeding in the desert with a lot of bumps and vibrations. Maybe a freak event yes but I highly doubt it. Typically, engineers state a certain limit but leave some room/capacity for more load.

True but I do go off-road a bit. Oh wow I saw you are located in Irvine. I live in Irvine too lol.

With the way the tonneau cover will spread the load, I wouldn't be worried at all.

With a 88lb limit, does that mean I can't get up in the bed and then sit on the side for a minute? I certainly hope not.

The issue isnt just weight, it has to do with how a topper would prevent the bed from flexing. Your cover will be fine in any scenario.

IMO this j brace issue is one of the biggest design clusters Ford has pulled in a long time. This is just penny pinching to the extreme by Ford.

I've been doing some dirt road trips while waiting for the dealer to supply the brackets. Don't play Baja racer and you'll be fine!

Am I the only one who thinks it's ridiculous we have to purchase and install these? Shame on Ford for this and I'm a Ford employee. I know we don't have to but to have only a 88 lb. limit is a joke.
