My XLT FX4 is 2 weeks old. On 6G I saw where the rust occurs. Wanted to coat those area.
Supplies: Black Rust Spray can, 3.78L paint can 1/4 Full. Small paint brush.

Areas to Coat.

Rear Backing Plate, small bolts rust, machined open areas brake line mount. Large mounting nuts, axle, frame mount bolts
Of course Drive shaft. Don't for get the little one that goes to Transfer case.
I see some of the seams are glued. Areas that are not fully sealed. Although Ford coats the floor area underneath very well.
Small bolts on gas tank shield.
Brackets that lines or wires are mounted too.
From my 4G XL truck the Rad Support can start to rust. When I change the oil and remove the skid plate on the XLT I will spray this area.

Thought about wearing a hat, gloves, eye protection and mask.
Just got under the truck and got it done.
Moved the truck a few times to orient the drive shaft for full coverage,
Helpful, not like my 4G, the 6G you can climb under it.
Laid on a tarp in my apartment car repair area. Nice Day to do it. Thanked our Veterans for the Life I have. Remembrance Day.
Of all things make sure the spray can nozzle is in the correct direction. A bit of paint on my face from brushing. Had some alcohol to wipe it off.
Make sure you . get your equipment out of the way when you move the truck.
There's always something that goes wrong. I have worked on cars a fair amount. Its not something I like to do. If I had a lift then ok.
So, lucky my large paint can was 1/4 full, crushed it with the back wheel. It stayed up right and nothing spilled. Can was crushed good.
Just have Paint in my hair, on my hands.

Just my experience doing it. I was satisfied I did it and with the truck higher up its not too bad to climb under it.
I think the truck is going to be hard to jack up and get the wheels off the ground . You need a long throw floor jack.

The frame has many stamped holes in it. I will recoat the film inside the frame every few years.
I live on the West Coast of Canada. 4 season weather, sometimes get snow in the city. Maybe 1 week shut down if heavy snow falls in city.
Local Mountains hopefully keep getting a good snow pack. Most down hill ski mnts make there own snow.
No continual excessive salt put down. I hose the bottom of the truck off in the Winter.

I feel for you guys that have to put up with rust, I really do. I've been a car guy all my life and I couldn't bear to watch them rust away. Don't have to worry about that here, even our exhaust systems last the life of the vehicle. But we do have to watch out for pack rats.

I don't have a lift either but lots of different jacks and accessories. I need to crawl underneath and see if my Daytona jack and cross beam will reach the factory lift points. The pads on the cross bean are on threaded shafts and can be raised 4 inches or so. Seen here with the pads screwed all the way down lifting the front of my Sprinter Motorhome.

Can't beat a good set of ramps either, the new plastic ones are nice and lightweight. Never crushed one, the trick is to set them so they don't move or skid as you drive up on them. I do have a heavy set of home made wood ones for heavy stuff.

That's what you have to look for buying a used car. You do not want it coming from the East/Northern areas of NA.

That floor jack looks like it has a bit more throw. I really thought about that in getting a new floor jack. I have to compromise, no over 100lbs. I have to lift it from a storage locker. Loved to have a Garage. Don't need the House.

One thing that i see vulnerable on the Ranger for ground clearance is the I guess its the tranny cross member support. it come from the frame and sticks down. Good Ford put the shocks on the outside. Now you do not have to worry about the axle shock brackets dragging or catching on something. I may put a stronger rear end cover on mine. Just wished to do light off road. ie. camping.
Cannot lift the truck up much more with the height of the under ground parking gate.

Originally, where the chassis rust comes from is when Ford put the Rangers out in the Michigan Storage lot's. The trucks that are sometimes Dealer Ones. Did that with the Bronco's. Partly do to Ford wishing to reinspect them. I am happy withy my timing of ordering a XLT not overly equipped with electronics. An easy build for Ford. It came with 10KM on the dial. I think people are waiting 8 to 10 months for a Raptor. Just more complicated to build.

When you mention "rear backing plate" are you referring to the brake backing plates?

Yes, the Rangers that sat out in the Michigan lot rusted underneath. I just dabbed some rust paint on the small fasteners. These look like they are coated but the fasteners still rust. Since the Ranger is high off the ground i found it easy to crawl underneath and cover the areas I wanted too.
I do not live in an area that puts large continual amounts of Salt/Brine down. I try to hose down underneath every so often in the Winter. May purchase one of those rolling spray nozzles that are more effective.
