Cracked windshield

I had a rock hit my windshield with 400 miles had the chip fix and two days later it was back, new OME windshield cost $1750, I had to pay my deductible of $500

I've had horrible luck with windshields, so I opted to have Clearplex installed.

It got hit right at the very edge where the film didn't cover, and it cracked

It's been an especially harsh winter here in NEPA. They not only put down a crazy amount of salt, there's some "anti-skid" mixed in. The roads have a LOT of gravel on them.

I noticed a couple of days ago it's claimed windshield number 2. The crack is fairly small. I was hoping it could be repaired. According to Safelite any crack that goes to the edge can't be repaired.

Definitely waiting until the crap is off the roads to get this one replaced. I also have 6 chips in the leading edge of my hood. I don't really want a bug deflector on this truck, but it seems like one could help. I'll also be looking into the windshield PPF, but posts like @T-Rev above make me think it's a waste.

With my 5g i have learned how to fix cracks and chips. I had about 15 rock chips i had repaired myself on my 5g. I have no idea why our roads are so bad here in south texas.

yup, i have never lived anywhere that had roads as bad as we do in south texas. pot holes, bumpy, edges are breaking off, lines painted all wavy, and gravel/rocks all on them.

its especially terrible between kingsville and riviera right now since they are doing all that construction to make the highway with overpasses at each small town instead of turn off lanes and changing highway 77 into i-69.

i haven't even been to mcallen or psja lately so i don't even know how bad that construction eded up over there. the farthest i have been lately is to weslaco so i could avoid all that work.

@Cabose-1 are you at a&m or ut? i ask since your signature says student. my oldest son went to a&m here in corpus and graduated two years ago as an army officer.

Army officer congrats! I was army infantry for a while, left for mp did not like the change so i got out. I am at utrgv. Will graduate spring of 2026.

nice! congratulations!

i was always told mp was a tough mos. my father-in-law was one and a bunch of friends were mp when i was active duty. my youngest son got loaned to the mps when he was active because he was a scout and they were downsizing that mos.
