Are you being serious? You don't need a gun for black bears. A pistol wouldn't even do anything but piss it off. All you need to be is loud, and if for some reason that doesn't scare it off, use bear spray. Check out the cinnamon black below. I said hey a couple times and it wandered off. That's it, and that's about as big as a black bear comes. They don't like people, and if you are bear aware and keep your scented items (food, deodorant, et al) away from your campsite in a bear proof container, you'll likely never see the things.

Bear Pistol needs to be big bore. 44 mag and upwards ie; 454, 500 S&W at least, in a wheel gun no smaller. It’s the only thing that will put one down, barring a large caliber rifle.

Every-time you squeeze the trigger, you want a round down range. No jams from limp wristing an automatic….??

Stay away from semi-automatics for this type of work as well.

Yep; nice when a hobby includes keeping up a perishable skill that is also acceptable training for work:

Yep, I shoot weekly. I spend most of time in Texas now, miss the deserts of Arizona for my long range shooting. But I joined a private outdoor pistol range and a long range club.

Absolutely, I’ve been shooting regularly at ranges over 1000 yards for past 30+ years. It is a very perishable skill.

Makes me want to come out of retirement again on the border, for our little cartel buddies taking pot shots at our military and Border Patrol Agents..???

Use to go hunting all the time for ducks, turkeys, pheasants, but then a lottery system started. I did the duck lottery a few times. I got picked once, but it was in the middle of the week and I couldn't take off from work.

I haven't shot a pistol since I got out of the military, but I am going to buy one now. I bought some land in southern Tennessee for my travel trailer. I want to have a pistol in case I run into a bear. Any suggestions for a pistol?
Bear Spray usually works better than a gun, and it doesn't kill the animal due to an encounter. You can carry a gun too and if I had to pick one, it would be a 44 mag.

Due to the cost of ammo and such, I started focusing more on dry fire training over the last 5 years and it really enhanced my fundamentals. So now the range is more like a performance test of applying fundamentals vs. training itself.

I shoot quite a bit. In my side business I actually build custom handguns. Also have my own range on our property.

Woohoo got the scope, rings, sunshades and scope covers in just a few minutes ago. Nice rig and outstanding optics.
