I am considering PPF and it's one of those topics that seems extremely hard to get a clear understanding of in the internet age. Tons of hype, the cost is high and opinions vary wildly. I think this is because there are a lot of variables, so comparing "apples to apples" is really hard.
  • Old PPF was clearly inferior technology. Yellowing, cracking etc have become the exception, not something to be expected.
  • Installer matters, a good job is impeccable (and invisible) and can improve the look, a bad one is obvious and will look worse than factory paint.
  • Material matters, the factory options here seem suspciously-cheap. Obviously Ford has buying power so maybe they can drive the cost down, but I would worry they are simply using a worse film.
  • Partial-panel application (like the factory option) seems risky for issues down the road, paint will weather differently (depends on if you keep truck outside etc), seam will be a little visible etc.
  • Eventually, they all need to be removed / replaced, depending on who you ask this is a pro vs a con =)
Not an expert obviously, just what I've derived wasting too much of my time trying to understand it so far.

For me $4200 is expensive, but may be worth it if it does a good job protecting the paint.
Got a question...does the ppf change the appearance of the truck? In other words does the
paint look brighter or more attractive with the ppf on?
$5500 is the normal starting price. The paint does look much more deep and glossy. Hides all swirls.

I had no idea of the factory film specs so I went aftermarket XPEL PPF, full front and partial rear fenders since I replaced the factory boards with AMP Research. Not inexpensive but this truck is probably my last one. I had no issues with XPEL on my F150. Since you are in Preskit, I imagine you are considering window film (not tinting). I put in XPEL, 70% front and 20% all around sides and rear. Truck does stay cooler. To me, all of it is worth it. Ceramic coat is next.

At that price I'd have to pass. I doubt I would keep the truck more than 7 or 8 years before trading in for a new model. Maybe just get certain areas of the truck ppf.
