Just chiming in to say that I also got this “service vehicle soon” and “check 4x4” message when I was screwing around in the pro cal tool. I accidentally initiated the change tire size function when I was looking around in the menus. I tried to clear the code with no results and I also tried to remove the battery cable to reset it. Nothing worked. Oddly enough, I drove the truck around and all the drivetrain worked fine. 2H, 4 high, 4auto, and 4Lo.
I stumbled upon this thread and realized that I just had to go through the process of the tire / gear learn procedure following the prompts on the procal tool. Fixed in like 2 minutes

Exact same thing happened to me, except I dropped it off at the dealer before I did the search that led me to this. Went into tire/gear on my procal box and then escaped with no change. boom: CEL. Now to try to convince the dealer to just do the fix without taking too much time. (Still covered under warranty in any case)

Update: Told the dealer I could fix it. They let me give it a try and five minutes later code was cleared and I was ready to go. Simply had to use the pro cal box to go into tire size and reload the default tire size and let it do its thing. Such a weird error.

Ford ranger procal tune 2.7l XLT, so I did all the downloading to the procal and sign in my account and everything seem all good and today I went to my dealership so the guy just plugs it in and install the tune (I did all of the work before hands) and he installs it and it gives him a fault code U2101. I know it a fairly new tune, just wondering if anyone had that before.

I’ve just done the same thing and now have the P160A error that won’t clear.
What exactly did you do in terms of the re-learn procedure?
Cheers.

Go into the tire size section, and act like you’re going to change the tire size. But just let it complete the process of reconfiguring things. Don’t cancel or back out.

Thanks for that.
The first time I went into it I got the screen as in the picture.
I pressed continue (thinking it wouldn’t do anything) and it went through the sequence of telling me to cycle the ignition etc.
After this I got the 4x4 error on the screen on the cluster and the P160A error.
Went back into the diagnostics and selected the AWD Re-learn. This cleared the cluster errors but not the P error.

are you saying that if I go back to the gear change/tire change option and do the same again it’ll clear the P error?
But doing it again will re-introduce the cluster errors?

Yes it should clear everything if you go through the tire size / gear ratio relearn procedure, assuming your tuner works the same as the ford performance pro cal tool.
I hope you get it figured out!

Resurrecting this old thread...

I was checking to make sure my tune was still installed (talk in these parts of the OTA PCM updates possibly wiping it). While in the tuner I went into the tire size menu to see what it said, and when trying to hit back I hit "continue" instead. That touch screen is absolutely terrible. Anyway, that provided me with the above mentioned "gear wrench" and codes.

Just followed the full procedure with the multiple 30 second waits and key cycles. Cleared the code. But seriously... what a dumb system
