Ford Performance Tune - Fault Codes

I just had the dealership install the Ford Performance tune and now I have a fault code for 4x4 fault. I tried disconnecting the battery but it didn’t change anything.

They also did the window regulator software recall.

Has anyone seen this? Any fixes besides having to waste time at the dealership?

I would do as it says and take it back to the authorized dealer that did the tune as soon as possible (make sure to drive there only in 2H)

I had that message when I had a DTC on the Steering Column Control Module. At first, none of my buttons on the steering wheel worked and then I had this message pop up in the app. I'm not sure if it was related to the SCCM or not but the dealership rewrote the module and it was fine. This was before the tune though so I know that it was not the cause.

So if you got the Tune, you have the tuner that will read and reset codes. Why not take a look and see what the actual fault is?

I did hook it up and try to clear it, but the unit couldn’t clear the code.

I think I figured it out. I was exploring the tuner and went into the “change gearing and/tire size,” but I exited without changing anything because I had no business being in there. That’s what threw the code.

When I went back in and let it re-learn the gearing and tire size that was already recognized in the system, it cleared the code.

Mine did this at the dealer as well. This is good information for people installing the tune themselves.

There can be many certified mechanics with that ASE certification and that doesn’t meen they know tunning take it from a tuner like myself this procal tune is stupid protected i say this because its extremely easy thats why nowhere does it say in the papers it has to be tuned by ford but well if that what people that know say well i respect that i took mine to ford to fix the recall on the window safety software and I wasn’t tols anything at all and my procal is on the glass

Thanks this just happened to me as well. Could you please walk through the steps to fix it? Did you just plug the ProCal system back into the OBD port and turned on the accessory mode?

So just to clarify for the masses, “the tune” didn’t create your CEL.
You poking around the tuner in menu’s “you had no business being in” is what caused the CEL.

Correct. If you go into the menu to change the gearing and/or tire size, and you back out, it could throw the code.

OK. I think I fixed it by just "re-learning" the performance tune. There was also a "service soon" light that I removed.
