Ford goes for quiet and economy. Probably 80% of buyers don't want the drone of the exhaust.

I am probably one of the few that actually prefer the stock sound of the Ranger 2.7s compared that of the Rager Raptor 3.0L's.

Mostly because I have never heard a v6 that I actually like the sound of, so making it louder is not something I would ever be looking to do. LOL

I keep my RRs in quiet mode, and still wish they were as quiet as the Lariat 2.7s.

If it were a V8 I would be all about making it so I can hear it loud and clear. LOL

Man I am so with cc1999. Loud Ecoboost v6 not a good sound to me. Heard several. Most modern factory duals I have seen not actual duals. Very skeptical cat back with no other mods adds jack crap on dyno. Read article years back where a Tacoma got cold air intake and exhaust. They dynoed before and after and it lost horsepower. Don't mean to dream crush and if your ears like louder Ecoboost then do it. I'm old and if I liked it then probably not cool. Have installed a few and mbrp I did fit perfect on f350. Magnaflow fit on durango not so good.

Why is it that a Ranger V6 has a single exhaust that does it no justice, yet a fake truck like a Honda Ridgeline has dual exhaust? Even the brother vehicle the Everest has dual exhaust. Come on Ford, no reason whatsoever to have single exhaust on these trucks! Even if you made it an option!
Even the Raptor has a 2 into 1 into 2 exhaust. Having a 2 into 1 into 1 isnt really that different.

If the Raptor had an X pipe and fully separate exhaust banks it would be different, but its not.

Same, I keep mine in quiet mode most of the time, the droning buzz is annoying and V6s rarely sound good. I honestly cant think of one that does sound good. The RR sounds like one of those 350z/370z/Infiniti engines with some cheap Chinese made exhaust attached that were all the range years ago. I am not really a fan

I was actually curious if there were any exhaust kits/ mufflers/ resonators that could make the RRs as quiet as the 2.7L Rangers.

yeah, making it either quieter or better with the option of making it quieter would be ideal. Im sure there are some enthusiasts out there who have done it. The "trombone exhaust" seems to get close, but still falls short IMO

Reading this comment was like reading the ill-formed thoughts in my brain before I was able to articulate them. I never liked v6’s. They have no soul; they’re an engineering compromise and were often the base engine where people who cared at all spent for a v8. If it wasn’t a flat 6 or inline 6 then I wanted nothing to do with it. But then we got a Mercedes GLE that impressed me in a whole lot of ways, not the least of which was the smooth, reliable, and very durable v6. When I first started shopping for rangers I didn’t set out to buy the 2.7 and was completely open to the 2.3, but after driving it the sound and roughness wasn’t to my liking. I drove the v6 and loved the power, smoothness, and the relative quiet. I like my 2.7 just the way it is.

What are you talking about? V6s are imperially imbalanced, unlike v8s and straight 6s. And yes they do not have a soul because they are designed for packaging a 6 cyl engine into a smaller space.

If there were anyway to simply swap out and exhaust system and make a six banger sound like this, they would make a mint. ‘Pretty much physicaly impossible for the reasons that some of you guys states. But if they could, think of how many of those systems would get sold.

Which might save me mint too. lol 😝

I’m talking about primary and secondary balancing, neither of which are any good in a v6 and must be compensated for with weight on the crankshaft (for the primary imbalance) and/or balance shafts (for secondary). Flat twins, fours, and sixes, and inline sixes have far better balance naturally.

I had a new 2017 Ridgeline for 3 years. It was one of the most capable and comfortable vehicles I've owned. Did all manner of truck things. Hauling dirtbikes, my 1190R adventure, tons of mulch, ran to the dump every other week, carried sheets of plywood, drywall, held my tools, guns, friends, hockey gear, etc. If they made it look a bit more aggressive, I'd have bought another one.
Same here!
