FX4 off-road package - downsides to adding?

Ordering a '25 Lariat with the V6 (Velocity Blue with Blackout pkg). I don't plan to off-road but we do spend a month in the Rockies each summer where some of the roads ain't great. Is there any downside or trade-offs to adding the FX4 package?

If really depends if these things sound worth it to you or not. I bought mine off the lot, so I had to get the FX4. If the Off Road shocks are a real thing, then the ride quality is certainly worth it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's a matter of preference. Some people say there is no difference in ride, I think an FX4 rides a little better. I did a few speed bump tests and, in my opinion, there was a noticeable difference. The bash guards are nice too. My thought was to get it, just like the towing package, not sure I will need it but if I do.... there is no right or wrong answer. Good luck and enjoy your ride.

My 2021 Ranger Lariat had the 4x4 package, and while it cornered ok, the suspension wasn’t very good on bumpy surfaces; in fact, I’d say it was terrible especially when compared to my Jeep (2016 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon with 4.5” lift, tuned suspension, & 37” tires). My 2024 Ranger Lariat has the FX4 package and I think it is substantially improved on those same bumpy surfaces. The problem with the standard 4x4 package is the rebound behavior of the suspension is more sedan-like and not well tuned for bumps, making it feel unstable. A locking differential is a game changer Offroad as well. Just my opinion…

If you opt for the locking differential as a standalone option, you get a nice button in the center console. With the fx4 package it’s accessed through the touchscreen or drive modes. I like the button.
