G.O.A.T. knob removal?

Is it possible to remove the GOAT shifter turny knob? I have gripping problems with my right hand and want to wrap the rotating knob with some sort of traction tape but would prefer it to be off the truck to do so. I really preferred the knob in my Bronco that just clicked from position to position instead of a turn and release like this one.

Apparently there are press to release tabs on the back side of the knob assembly you'll have to access.

What about a wide black rubberband? It would be easily removed if/when you sell the truck.

When I had my Expedition the gear shifter was a knob. I put one of the rubber bracelets everyone is giving away over it. I don't use the Ranger knob enough to worry about it. Got that one from a volleyball tournament. Lol

I can tell you in my 2024 RR, I once banged into it on accident, with my cue case and the ring popped right off & hit the floor (no damage). Also popped right back on, so apparently easy to do.
