Since I have never used a sun shade, I was about to ask if the actually worked. So they are basically to keep sun off the seats and steering wheel, but the car will continue to be hot? My theory (and the reason I never bought one) was that the sun still pounds on the roof and gets in through the other five windows so I didn't think they would help much.
they do help some. Don’t expect it to be cold.

but the dash won’t be quite as hot when you get in.

a big benefit is blocking the uv so it will keep your interior better looking

In the Colorado sun they make a big difference. If you can crack the windows a tiny bit I’d wager the interior is 10-20° lower on a super sunny day. But because the seats and steering wheel are not Lava Hot, it feels even cooler

I put my shade in yesterday morning. My truck sits in the direct Florida sun. The entire interior is noticeably cooler than the day before when I did not have the shade. I think most of the heat gain is through the front windshield.
That said, I had the side windows tinted to match the back windows and I put sound and heat insulation in the doors and roof.
I would say based on one day’s observation that the interior was substantially cooler than before I got it.
Still going to look at the 80-85% clear ceramic film though.

I have this umbrella style one. Fits pretty well, and I especially love that it fits in the door pocket, but you have to be careful not to scratch your dash with it. It's also maybe not quite as effective as the thick folding ones, but is probably 85% of the way there. It'll still cut the heat very significantly on a 100 degree day.
