Be careful with this lock. I tried to open tonight to fill gas. I’m down to 35 miles and the key cannot push all the way in. I fiddle with it and put some oil inside and now the key can only goes in 3/8 inch.

i may have to drill the lock out or call a lock smith lol.

That sucks! Yours must be defective somehow. I've driven 2,000 miles since I put mine on. No problems at all.

I did see reviews saying that they had to lube it (though to be fair I saw the same reviews on the Ford OEM spare tire lock). Guess it's important to do so before it locks up. Sorry you had to deal with this!

We have vehicle emission testing in the Chicago suburbs. In the past if you had a gas cap they would take it off and pressure test it for leaks. If it leaked you failed the test.

The Ranger comes stock with that flap that prevents gas fumes from leaking out, so there is no need for a gas cap

If I took my Ranger in for emission testing and they saw a gas cap, they would want to test it, and if it leaked you would fail the test, even though the flap is still there to prevent gas fumes from escaping. Trust me, the testing person wouldn't understand that.

Once you fail any emission test they make you come back every year for testing, rather than every two years.

Government overreach and over regulation is such a money grab. Here in North Carolina 🇺🇸 in my county and the majority of most of the counties in the state we have no emission testing at all to include my F350 Super Duty 6.7 Diesel. $13 for a safety inspection -all lights work and a horn honk and your out the door.
I completely understand how the fuel neck functions with the flap, and I am not concerned about fuel theft, capless tanks won’t keep a random vandal from contaminating your tank. For $30 it’s just a little piece of mind just knowing I am the only one that can access my fuel tank.

One of the dumbest things Ford bean counters ever did was to delete the fuel cap.
