Thank you for confirming that not using the fob ring eliminates the fob-ring problem.Every time the dealer service advisor hands me my fob back it has a ring and tag on it....
I don't add these stupid huge fobs to my key ring. I usually put it in a lower pocket and fuggidaboudit....
My point I guess is there is no problem. People put rings on these all time. My wife put rings on all hers. Wasn't a problem.Thank you for confirming that not using the fob ring eliminates the fob-ring problem.

Another alternative…
I have the same setup as your lower key, case and all. Those cable rings are so handy, and with the case I don't worry about my fob getting scratched or dropping it and the fob breaking apart (something that happened to my old fob a couple times). Those wire things were included with my fob covers. Never used them though.

Gotcha. Maybe I'm old school but I still carry my fob with a house key and I have a cash can where I keep $70 in case I'm ever in a pinch. However, I just realized OP might like the keyring I do use for the non-fob things. It's the Exotac FREEKey system. Super handy, I've had it for probably close to 10 years now.I don't use the wire, I just put it on for that photo.
I learned about the vinyl covers on here.
I didn't install the back half of the clear cover. Too bulky. Plus I didn't get them to protect the fob, I got them to help prevent negligent discharge..err..accidently locking/unlocking/panic alarm. Happened easily with fob in pocket. Hasn't happened since installing the covers.
