Dealer emailed me earlier this week, and also called me and left about 6 voicemails during a work day asking for a $1000 non-refundable deposit on the Ranger Raptor order (dealer stock not retail) it had been about 2 weeks since i “ordered”and they had never mentioned requiring a deposit, let alone a non-refundable one only that they would call me me when it came in. Who puts down non-refundable 1K in a dealer stock order? Definitely not me. Guess if I want one I’ll probably have to shop around some more. But i bet these get marked up a bunch anyway. After a year they will start to get easier to order. I’m not in a rush.
Check in your state to see if a non-refundable deposit is even legal.

My dealer charged me a 1% non refundable deposit but when I bought my full size they handed me the check back even though they said they wouldn’t.

Eh, anyone who is going to give a dealer $1000.00 for a stock order without a price in writing is asking to lose $1000. So the truck comes in and they can price it as high as they want? They are probably taking in deposits from multiple people for the same stock order. I will find another dealer to do business with. There are many in the area and I’m cool with expanding my range. My local Ford dealer where I get my mustang serviced put a retail order in for me on a F-150 Raptor with no games. They said they would do the ranger but they already had 6 orders deep and were only getting 1. Is there this much craze over a mid size truck? I admit its pretty cool and am considering dropping my full size but i giess I thought it wouldn’t be quite the rat race its turning out to be to get one.

Wow, what D-bags. I'd walk just based on the part where they mention "non-refundable". They can't be serious.

Well allot of people that think they are getting MSRP will be seeing shady things go on just like the Bronco and Maverick. They will go to pick up their truck and the dealer will have doc fees, paint protection etc. added on. They will be like take it or leave it. They know you waited this long and will take it and if you do not they can turn around and probably sell it for more.

You don't have accept these added charges. You don't have to accept the offer price either. I didn't accept the offer price/ADM for my truck and guess what, I got them to remove it. They also installed a security system and told me, like with ADM, there's nothing they can do about and guess what, I didn't pay for the optional security add on. The world needs to learn how to negotiate. It's seems to require work and most seem take the path of least resistance, hence we see this trend continue. Does anyone remember what we did prior to the pandemic?

Oh boy, they can turn around and sell it for more. I don't care.

I wouldn't. Deposits make sense for something that's very niche and they may have a hard time moving, a RR is moving with little to zero effort and does not warrant a deposit.

I know it’s a totally different class but I may end up going with the Nissan Pro 4X. Getting one fully loaded for just under $40k. Should be all the truck I need especially with a kid on the way.

That may be the way I am leaning too.
I want a 6 cyl. and I wanted to wait to see what Ford has but I bet it will be over priced and wont be available for a long time off the lot. I am not going to go through all the ordering garbage and not testing it first. How did the Nissan seats feel compared to the Rangers? Rangers are so comfortable to me.

My concern is the Nissan back seat being smaller. I like it is naturally asperated v6 so should be reliable and last a while. These new midsized trucks are getting to expensive especially Taco and Ranger. I can afford it I do not want too though because I am now starting to put money away for retirement..

I may just drive my Ranger for a few more years, I am happy with it. Just right now they are offering me almost what I paid for it and if I wait the value will drop off more with a new model out.

From what I saw, the Nissan payload was poo. Doesn't leave much room for towing.

Granted not everyone tows like I do.

One of my friends ordered an F150 Raptor from Quirk. I ordered a Ranger Raptor from Bailey Brothers in Livermore.

Just went and test drove a Pro-4X tonight. Was actually pretty impressed with it. It drove nice and had some good punch. One thing I noticed is that the steering was heavy, especially at lower speeds. The interior isn’t anything special but I don’t hate it. It honestly feels more like an old school truck than these luxury rides manufacturers are pumping out these days.

Had them run some numbers for me and would be $46k out the door. That’s still pretty high for a Frontier and I started thinking … is the Raptor Ranger worth at least $16k more? I absolutely do. Think I’ll be sticking with my order after all.

Good choice….i think that Raptor will be something special. Also think it’s a pretty fair price for everything it is

That sounds high.
I have not driven one yet or even stopped in but I have been talking with the local dealer. For a new 23 the Pro-4x with the upgraded pro 4x package with heated seats it was around 41,000 and 43,000 for a 24. I know people have got under 40,000 for a pro-4x.

I have heard that about the steering.

When I used the configurator to price all the trucks with the exact same option I have now they all were pretty close. Taco was about 500 more than Ranger. Colorado was about 1000.00 less. The Pro-4x was about 2000.00 less but because the packages to get what I wanted actually gave me stuff the others didn't like heated mirrors, heated steering wheel, light sills etc. Some useful stuff and some not so useful. But there are rebates on the Frontier for a couple grand more and the dealer seems willing to work on the price some.

Honestly I may wait, I think the whole truck market is going to drop due to competition and the market being crowded.
I also seen new Dodge prices and these truck manufacturers may have priced themselves out of the markets. You can buy luxury cars for less. I think people will now hold on to their truck longer and I think some will not buy trucks all together anymore. They may have reached a point where a chunk of the truck buyers say no more. I mean they have had a hot truck market for a while and have been gouging customers and everything eventually comes to a end.
Of coarse there will always be those handful of people that can not wait.

I mean I have bought a new truck every 3 to 4 years and I didn't this time. I do not think any of these trucks is worth the money right now. Nissan is the only one getting close with the rebates. Plus Ford is still offering to buy my truck outright for a really good chunk or I would not be considering it at all right now.
