Latest is they have to replace the instrument cluster and they have no ETA on when that part will be available.

Hi Ryan, it's Matt from Ottawa Ontario Canada. I just bought a new Ranger raptor. It's been sitting at the dealership since July 31 and it was discovered that the instrument cluster was burnt or not working just like yours so I'm curious to know how long it took to get yours fixed or even if it is fixed?

It is still not fixed, it’s been 20 days since the issue started and 19 days since it’s been in the shop. I am being told that they are waiting on a new instrument cluster to be available and shipped to the dealership. I have also been told that Ford is putting extra effort in addressing these issues with their 24’ trucks, but we will see how true that is.

Good luck and hopefully they fix yours soon!

Update: I am being told by Ford that there is a global shortage on the chips used within the Instrument cluster and they have no ETA on when the replacement part I need is available. I was told I have to wait for the part to be available.

This is after I received an update from the Ford Corporate Customer Service rep on 8/23/24 saying the part was available and should arrive at my local dealership by Wednesday/Thursday (8/28 - 8/29).

Yet new Rangers are being built everyday with one. I know that is two different supply chains, but it still would chap my ass with that answer they gave.

I am dealing with a spare parts shortage issue myself. Seems Ford, released almost no spares into their parts system network.

100%. My ass is certainly chapped for a few reasons. Mainly that I feel like I am getting the runaround from Ford Customer Service and they dont really care to help get this resolved for me. The other is just bad luck. This is my first Ford ever and of course I get a Lemon.

The truck is badass and I want it back, but my guess is it will be at least a few months before I can get in a new one.

Probably the supplier gave Ford some feel-good number about a low failure rate so Ford only ordered 1 spare per 1000 units instead of 1 per 100 units (making numbers up here). Or maybe Ford did it to save money, but given their active campaign to improve QC, warranty, and recall numbers I find it hard to believe they would do something like this intentionally. I've been wrong before though... 😆

I think part of the problem also is that since this is a global derived model even though the North American Rangers are built in Michigan, most of the bits and bobs pieces are sourced overseas and probably primarily Asia.

I am down waiting on a front bumper cover for my XL from a small front end accident I had earlier this month. It is the last piece the body shop is waiting on and it seems as I write this, there is only like two of the XL bumper cover spares in the USA and I happen to be outside the two regional Ford parts distribution zones that do not want to release either one of them to my body shop.

I do not believe they are doing anything intentionally, but what is bothersome is that the truck is under warranty, the part isnt available, and they are just telling me to wait. Meanwhile my truck is sitting in a service bay collecting dust and who knows how long it will be before the part is available. If they provided some sort of timeline, I could live with that, but they are not. They are making new trucks everyday with that same part in Detroit, MI - I just dont get why they cant get an extra instrument cluster and provide it to someone who has already purchased a truck, its ridiculous.

Are you in a loaner? Is the truck still drivable regardless?

While not ideal, you could just use Waze or similar for GPS speed and monitor engine vitals with a OBDII dongle and app as a crutch if needed while your cluster gets sorted.

I am in a Loaner F-150. The RR is totally drivable, it’s just stuck in the normal drive mode. Like you said, I do have other options to monitor speed and can use the Ford app to monitor fuel levels, so that is certainly an option. I would really only consider doing that if Ford gave me a solid shipping date for the part.

I am going to start exploring Lemon Laws in my state to see what options I have. I’d love to keep my truck, but I cant wait months hoping for that to happen and Ford Customer Support doesnt seem to have the options available to them to get me the part.

Lemon Law has pitfalls also. Soon as you invoke it, anything in motion by Ford will stop in its tracks. Plus you will never be made 100% whole back from the deal after they deduct fair use and you will lose having the trade in value of the vehicle for future tax offsets on any new to you vehicle you get to replace it.

Only you know what your situation is, but I would suggest just driving the dog piss out of their loaner for a bit and if it looks like it will drag out for multiple months, then circle back around to the Lemon Law and reevaluate then.

Thanks for the advice there, I do appreciate it. Lemon Law claim will be a last resort, I am hoping Ford will do the right thing and help me either get back into my Raptor or help me get into a new one.

The reality of the situation is Ford is making me fight to get updates, they said they cant fix it, don‘t have an ETA on the part, and are not seemingly doing anything to expedite getting it. So I have to do what I have to do. Remember, I currently do not have a truck that I have paid for. This is on Ford.

I had something similar happen on my Bronco. Drove it off the dealer lot after signing papers and threw a turbo error code. Ended up sitting for a for a month waiting on parts. In the end I ended up getting a free ford protect extended warranty after filling a claim with BBB and canceled my extended warranty and got my money back. In the end saved a lot of money!
