It wants to feel a slight amount of torque on the wheel. My Escape drove me crazy until I learned how it senses hands on the wheel.
My solution is to place one hand on the wheel at the 4:00 o’clock position or the 8:00 o’clock position and let the weight of my forearm apply the torque that it wants. Once I started doing this I get no more warnings and I love the lane centering.
