Hi everyone,

I'm so excited I found this site, only regrets I didn't find it sooner.

A little background: currently driving a 2009 Escape Limited, V6, tow PKG. moon room, leather trim, call it my Obama car as it was an unintentional purchase back in August 2010. I was on track to retirement so purchasing a new vehicle wasn't in the cards, but when I heard I could get $4500. for my old Chevy van I was all ears.
After a brief period of asking ppl what they liked and didn't like about their vehicles and a little soul searching what it was I would like I decided to visit my local Ford dealer to look at SUV's and all they had left was one in Iconic Silver and one that was just plain ugly. After a short but thorough test drive (man was that new car smell intoxicating) I knew I had to have it. At age 56 this would become the very first brand new car I ever purchased. And on top of the cash-for-clunkers $4500. discount, I received an additional $2500. rebate from Ford for end of year discount! To date this has been the best car deal I have ever made and I still love this car as the first day I brought her home. But as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and even though she still runs strong, still averages 25+ MPG's highway, 22+ pulling a tear drop trailer through the mountains, uses negligible oil, she has 202,000 miles. Oh, and she still looks good!

Now on to the present. For the last 10 months I have been trying to decide on a replacement, and given that I enjoy outdoor activities like camping and road tripping, and kind of getting tired of the cramped space of a teardrop, I've also been wanting to upgrade my trailer to something a little larger, something I can stand up in and get out of the elements when nasty weather kicks up. The Escape has been more than plenty for my current setup, but at 3500# tow capacity, it leaves little room for the upgrade I'm looking for. I'd also like to gift it to my grandson as a starter ride while she still has some reasonably good miles on her.

After months of looking, making offers, both used and new, haggling with sales ppl, most being very unethical, I eventually arrived back with the dealer I bought the Escape from and special ordered a 2026 Ranger XLT, 4x4, 2.7L, Advanced Tow Pkg, Electronic Lockout, (as I opted against the FX4) and, I got them to sell me the Katzkin leather at dealer cost. I placed the order around June 15 and took advantage of Ford's Employee Pricing Discount. About the only thing I'm not satisfied with is Ford's color schemes. I really like the Iconic Silver but alas that is no longer available. I went with CG, but like some others here, I've been torn between leaving the CG alone, and maybe changing it to Desert Sand. They both would look great, especially with the black Katzkin Leather. Main thing is to get a new vehicle that should be worry free once out on the highway pulling a trailer.

And in conclusion, I kid you not, just after I joined this group this morning, and a few moments ago, I received an email from the sales lady informing me that, unfortunately the dealership has decided to sell the business after 56 years. She assured me nothing should alter my purchase order, even though she has decided not to stay with the new owners. I made sure the purchase order was accurate, but noticed at the bottom is a disclaimer that says, "This is Not a Binding Contract".

So I'm nervous. After all this time and effort, with my production week coming up the last week of August, the stress of wondering if it was all for naught?

Welcome!!

Those are the old escapes that are shaped kind of like a small long jeep wrangler? Not the aerodynamic wedge looking one, right?

If so, those v6s were super and that is a great little suv. A buddy has one with 200 or 300k on it and loves it.

I hope the new dealer doesn't add on any last minute price surprises for you. The new truck sounds great

Yes, kind of boxy. I think style changed in 2011 or 2012? Re. new Ranger, I'm trying to keep positive. On one hand, the new dealer may try to be really aggressive in getting and keeping business, leading to additional incentives? OR, have a typical corporate mindset of trying to squeeze customers for all that they can get out of them. I'd hate to start this process all over bc I can get pretty ornery at times. There's good reasons why domestic auto mfg keeps losing market share.

It doesn’t sound like there’s any indication that they’re going to nickel and dime you (yet, anyway). Also check your original order because it might have the same wording that it’s not a binding contract. I know when I ordered mine I had the right to back out at anytime and get my deposit back, up to and including when the trick was delivered to the dealer and I inspected it, and I assume this is standard in any state.

Welcome!
Your Ranger sounds like it will be perfect for what you do. I picked my Ranger up toward the end of June. It get's better fuel mileage than I expected, comfortable and the 2.7L hauls my rpod TT with power to spare.

I wouldn't think the dealer changing hands will cause you any issues. They will likely retain a lot of the current staff and would be fools to screw with existing deals.

Enjoy your truck.

Welcome! Lots of great folks here who have helped me a lot.

With any new vehicle, you need to go over it in daylight before you sign. Have the salesman put it on a lift so you can inspect for rust and loose parts or wires. I do that because within a week I am getting the new truck undercoated, rust proofed, and a spray in bed liner. Check all the plastic areas for scratches, go over all the painted surfaces for bubbling or overspray. Look for dents. Check the DOT manufacturing info on the tires and spare. Make sure everything operates correctly and take it for a test drive before you sign.

Photograph everything inside and out and under the hood. Since your dealership is changing hands, you have no idea who they are or have a relationship with them. Protecting yourself is not a bad thing.

Frankly, I would be a whole lot more worried about looking to get a larger RV. I researched for months before deciding not to get one. A lot of RVs today are owned by three manufacturers. Many are poorly constructed, and some have problems even at delivery.

You said you had new car smell fever with the Escape, so you might want to pay a professional inspector to go over the RV you want before you sign any paperwork. Anything wrong, it gets fixed and checked before you sign.

Do research on that RV dealership and it's reputation for parts and service after sale. There are many RV owner forums. Look at those as you focus in on a particular dealer, company, model.

You might check out a YouTube website called "Liz Amazing." Liz is an RVer turned advocate for people who have experienced nightmares with their new RV. She bangs heads with RV corporation owners to help people who own lemons to get repairs and even buybacks.

Keep us posted on your new Ranger!

Yes, It is Desert Sand. Love the color so far. It really doesn't show the dirt and dust after a day in the desert. Heck, I've only washed it once so far, Lol.

A few years ago I had a Carbonized Gray F-150. It showed everything and I really wasn't happy with it.

Here is a pic of my Ranger after a couple of days exploring the desert. It is very dusty but you really can't tell. Here I'm getting ready to head home.
