He said he changed the oil and that he reset the counter.

You have to read more than the subject line.
My dealer told me the same thing. It wasn't reset

Your dealer told you that they changed the OP's oil and didn't reset the monitor?

I wonder why the OP doesn't know about this.

Okay so I am not sure who reset what, when. I know I did in my original post.
But interestingly, I changed my oil today and looked at the label I put under the hood at every oil change. The first one was actually around 2,500 miles and it was done 4-15-2025. The app and truck were showing I had 4% oil life left. Roughly 2,500 miles but almost exactly 1 year.
My wife has a 2020 Focus. It was showing 6% oil life left. I also changed it on 4-15-2025 and it was roughly 6500 miles since the last time.
I am concluding that there are many factors but one of them seems to be calendar related.
