I am getting this message on my dash and in the App. I have a 2024 XLT with the 2.3 and just turned 5,000 miles last week. I changed the oil right at a thousand miles and reset the counter. At a thousand miles I got a similar message but was going to change it anyway.
Any ideas why it’s telling me I need to do a second oil change before it technically needs the first one?

My first guess would be a high number of idling hours.
Makes sense I think, the truck had 50 miles on it when I picked it up and the engine hours were high. I think it was one of those held at the factory.

But it hasn’t idled a lot since the last oil change

How much time had it been between changes? It might be set to call for an oil change after 6+ months or something regardless of miles.

I’m at 54% oil life with 7250 miles and changed at 500, and 5000.

i am just a few days shy of 6 months, but I don’t think that triggers the oil alert.

i had a 2500 road trip freeway driving in the first 5000 but almost all short trips since.

so I believe, the oil life takes that into account.

I am thinking about changing oil early as I have a long trip coming up.

interestingly the ford app kept saying I had 2200 miles left but that false information seems to have disappeared

Hours idled, number of starts, and time since last change. Those are the only 3 things I can think of.

I like that 6 month schedule. Short trips are bad on oil.

Wait, trying to piece together the relevant details since they're not all in the OP, you changed the oil at 1,000 miles and you said you reset the oil monitor. Then a change at 5,000 miles and no mention of the oil monitor; at over 7,200 miles that'd be over 6,000 miles since the monitor was reset which doesn't sound like it's premature to be notified that it's time for a change. But if you did reset the monitor and just didn't tell us, well, I'm done trying to fill in blanks here. Guessing isn't a lot of fun.

I have a notice on my App under Service Planner that says I'm 16 DAYS past due my 20K service, which was done on 24 March. Oil life monitor says 98%.
It also says my 30K service is due Jan 2027. Really? I'll put on another 10K by October. I get oil change every 5K.
I don't see a way to clear the 'past due' notice.

I can't explain the specifics of the oil life monitor, but it definitely uses lots of data points. I don't do a lot of idling, but I go through periods in which I tow a lot of miles, at both medium (4000 pounds) and light loads.

I can see the oil life dropping faster when I work the truck harder as opposed to light towing or just driving unloaded.

Just regarding load on the engine, a quick way to see that is by looking at the boost guage. I'd guess that the time and amount of boost is a factor in oil life, but the point is that the system can account for all the factors that add to stress on the engine and reduce oil life.

I changed my oil a couple of weeks back, reset the monitor, because I don't drive very much and only short distances, it was showing 98% & 1,200 miles remaining a couple of days later.

Drove about 1.5 hours round trip on the freeway last week, now the monitor is showing 93% & 2,200 miles left.

I assume it's because short trips don't allow the engine oil to get sufficiently warm to burn off moisture or condensation, thereby decreasing the lifespan of an oil change internal.

The knuckleheads at the dealer didn't reset your oil mileage. It's in your dash menu.

He said he changed the oil and that he reset the counter.

You have to read more than the subject line.
