Procal tune + BOV

I apologize upfront if this is already discussed in another thread. I did a search and couldn’t find what I was looking for but admittedly, I’m still figuring out how to navigate on a forum. Grace please!

My questions:

1. Any known issues with installing the tune AND a BOV (do they work and complement each other)?
2. Known warranty concerns with installing a BOV? (I don’t need to reopen the can of worms on the tune, I’ve made the decision to buy and have installed at my dealership?).
3. Turbosmart Kompact for the BOV?
4. Recommendation on where to buy BOV?
5. Is the BOV easy to install by a guy that doesn’t know if my screwdriver is a left or right handed model?
6. Anything else I forgot to ask?

I really appreciate this forum. It has helped me tremendously.

Not an expert on "turbo tuning", but I'll try and answer these:

1)issues? Shouldn't be any issues. A BOV isn't a power adder, it's just turbo bling really. On manual Trans vehicles it can help reduce "rev hang" and make shifts a little quicker (so I am told), but on the ATs no real change to be expected. Complement? Well if you like the pssshhh sound it can make your driving experience more fun I suppose

2) Warranty issues? Like I said it's not a power adder, but anytime a tech sees "boy racer" stuff on a vehicle you can bet he's gonna question it, and these guys will use any angle they can to get out of doing warranty work

3) can't make any specific brand recommendations, but what type you want depends on how much "pppsssshhh" sound you want. Some are completely open and loud, some are completely recirculating type and add no sound at all

4) shop around and look for deals

5) pretty easy...one of the easiest bolt on mods I guess

6) I think I alluded to it above...what are your reasons for wanting an aftermarket BOV? For most it's the psshht sound, and how do you know which are louder and which are quiet? You will want to do a little research there

Every supercharged internal combustion engine requires somewhere for excess intake pressure to go in the event the throttle snaps closed. This is referred to as a boost control valve, blow off valve, recirc valve or bypass valve. These all refer to the same fundamental function of relieving high pressure compressed filtered air back to atmosphere. You won't be adding a blow off valve, just replacing a recirculation valve with a blow off valve for added noise.

In my experience with turbosmart, it is better to get a BOV spacer from boomba and run that with the stock recirculation valve actuator rather than run a turbosmart that fails and starts throwing overboost codes all the time. There is literally no performance difference between the two.

Controls compressor surge, no performance addition, only more control then the stock diverter.

Only advantage, it will perform better than the OEM diverter. You can also purchase a vent to intake or recirculating, over a vent to atmosphere.

Most find the continual release of compressor surge to atmosphere, annoying after a while and return to the stock diverter or an aftermarket unit.

Install is simple on the RR but you’re also delving into the world of warranty issues.???
