I'm contemplating a cap for my new XLT. I've gotten quotes for A.R.E. and Leer and I know there are other brands, including ones sold by Ford. Prices seem to be comparable. Are there any major differences between the different brands?

(and thanks to this site, I am now aware that I'll have to get the j-braces installed first)

I don't believe that is Correct. Two Leer dealers in my area are saying that the cap for a 2024 Ranger includes the J-braces (Load Box Reinforcement Kit) as part of the base price. But, depending on how long it takes to install, the dealer may add a little extra for his time.

Note: Leer is the manufacture of the Caps through Ford and you get to pay $1000+ extra for the Ford badge on the cap. Enjoy.

The main differences I noticed are mostly the optional features that you can order and the design of the "higher trim" windows.

Not every brand offers touchless unlock. ARE usually offers the carpet headliner for free. Small nuances like that, but otherwise the overall fiberglass design is basically the same across brands.

ARE has those nice seamless window options, RANCH has some that only open as a tilt on the rear end side.

I preferred the leer cap on my F150 and Tacoma. Mainly because I liked the sliding windoors on the sides of the cap.

This is the Westin EXP topper, I preferred the security of no windows and large side access panels. It was significantly cheaper than the big name brands, but I did have to assemble and install it myself, which I actually enjoy doing.
