I just got hit with bad cam phasers at 16k miles. ?

Good news is they have updated part numbers for the new cam phasers and I'll only be out of commission for a week.

I thought I read somewhere the company making them has a hard time keeping spec. My wife and I have each have a Ranger Raptor and no problems. If there were, I'm sure I would totally bummed. At the same time if they gave me a new engine I would be more than happy. These vehicles are in a category all their own. You can't compare them to a pick-up truck. They're way more than that IMO.

I believe I have bad cam phasers too. Brand new RR built 9/2025 and noticed the rattle at cold start with less than 300 miles. Started another RR at the dealer and it sounded similar, just not as loud. No CEL or loss of power and I'm averaging 13 MPG in town.

Does this sounds like bad phasers to you?

I'll start up both of ours one of these mornings and I will post back if I can figure out how to post a video clip. But I'm almost positive both of ours sound like yours and we are at 9,000 and 10,000 miles. I'm 62 and every vehicle I've owned rattled a little bit at start up until your oil started circulating and lubricating your "dry", "cold", "unexpanded", steel engine parts. Correct me if I'm wrong. I hope that's all it is.

Here is both my 24’ and 25’ cold starts.
Sounds normal to me.
2024 RR

2025 RR

I for some reason thought the cam phaser issues were more than an initial startup sound, with more of a continuous knock sound to them.

Most engines have a little bit of a very brief rough rattle sound to them as oil is pressured up through the engine apron startup.
