Hi all. New owner of a Ranger Wildtrak.

I wondered if the START BUTTON could be interrupted to a kill switch, to prevent starting the truck??

any ideas?

YES but without that much hassle.
If the button trigger wire (+) would be interrupted, the truck should not start.

Anybody has done it before?

First, you can't start the truck without the keys being in the truck.
Second, the start button doesn't really start the truck, it tells the ECU to initiate the start sequence. So, I wouldn't mess with that, lest you cause other communication problems.
If you are worried about 'unauthorized' use, it may be better to put a switch that interrupts the power going to the starter solenoid. Offhand I don't know where that would be on our Rangers. So, do some research.

You would have to mount that in a not so obvious location and run battery cables to it. Not an easy task. Plus, a battery kill switch cuts ALL power. Not sure OP wants to lose all remote functions and all presets.

Im. thinking something much less drastic.
I found the acyual switch photo and seems it has 6 pins:
2 for the actual physical switch
2 for lled light
2 for something else... WHAT WOULD IT BE?

I might have to take it out or. check electrical diagram of where the wires are coming from...

Another thing. I cant seem to find any switch, knob oe something i could use. There are very few buttons already used, and no blanks or available stuff.
Any ideasss?

I see there is a fuse for the ignition switch. Pull it and see if that prevents the vehicle from starting with fob. If so, then perhaps wiring in a hidden kill switch inline with the fuse would do what you are wanting.

You can add a kill switch to the start system. The start button sends a signal to a control unit. You can cut that wire and run it through a switch. When the switch is open, the truck will not start.

You need a diagram for the wire. Many shops that install alarms know this wire. You can also use a switch on the fuel pump or on the ignition relay. These do the same thing.

If you are not sure about the wiring, a shop can do it. It is better than guessing and making a problem in the system.

Its exactly what i tought before, BUT: truvk has Auto Start/Stop, it needs the starter several times after. It would need an On/Off switch that has to be turned off when parking -but want a momentarily button- so it by default doesnt start again next time, button has to be pressed again.

This electronic cars are quite a challenge by the different protocols they are. Its not that simple how i thought before.

How about a remote switch hidden in the cab that interrupts power to the fuel pump? I'd prefer this over getting into the bus.
