I currently have a truck build “in production” and purposefully didn’t order running boards because the OEM ones were awkward with getting in and out of the truck.

However, I’m 6’-1”, my wife is 4’-11”. I need something for her to be able to get in and out of the truck and I’d prefer it also not be a “calf banger” every time I get in or out.

The only option I’ve been able to come up with is the Go Rhino power steps with the override switch that I can turn on or off. However, I’d prefer something a bit less expensive and something that would give me at least a little protection off road.

This will be the first truck I’ve ever owned (coming from 40 years of sports cars), the slim steps look good but seem hard for middle aged folks to use. I need something functional for her, but “non-intrusive” for me. I sure could use your help. Any recommendations?

I am not as tall as you, nor is my wife as short as yours, but we both do not like the running boards on my 2025 Lariat FX4. We both find them awkward. A retractable running board/step would likely solve this but we do not want to spend that much money.

The go rhino slim step will not like provide the same level of body protection..

maybe get whatever step / rock guard looks good and works for you but have a welder add a loop on her side so she can step in and out?

I purchased my new 24 stx Ranger without side steps and soon realized that I needed them. I purchased aftermarket side steps for $225 and installed them in less than 2 hrs.

I installed these drop steps from Rough Country on our Ranger STX; just another option to consider.

Are those the GoRhino ones? Also, how easy are they to step over if you don’t want to use them?

this is the answer!

RE OP: I haven't found OEM to be calf banger but YMMV if you've tried them at the dealer and not like. I slide right into the cab w/o stepping up and haven't seemed to notice they are there on exit. They are a little thin for older folks or slippy conditions, gotta take time getting foot planted.

Too relatable. I'm 6' 3" and the GF is 5' 3". I get in with no issues and she's grabbing the handle for dear life everytime lol
