Took my 2024 XLT Ranger (delivered in May)in to my local ford service center to have them check
1) rough transmission issues (4th down to 3rd down to 2nd and very rough change down into 1st when stopping)
2) Cold starts bogging out
3) Also RPM sticking at 3500-4000 rpm when take foot off accelerator in sport mode.

After 4 hrs wait I was told that it needs a new transmission and I am waiting for them to call me back after they contact Ford about a replacement. Said something about a "spike?" in transmission, possible diode? Failure?
Any one else have these issues?

That sucks to hear. I have had mine since early June 2024 and other than a few weird shifts in the first 1500 miles or so, has been great and I am pushing up on 10K miles here in the next day or so.

I have not really messed with any of the other modes beside normal though.

Yikes. I do have some rough shifts similar to what you describe. For me it's most pronounced when the engine/transmission have not yet warmed up. I got my XLT in April and am about to hit 9k miles.

What do you mean by "cold starts bogging out?"

Sorry to hear that. I have had transfer case problems since 2000km, now at 10,000 and it hasn't been resolved yet.

Side note/question... Has anyone else experienced very stiff steering and the wheel not correcting post turn, during extreme cold Temps? At -30c the steering wheel is work to steer.

When I start it first thing in the morning it idles "rough" almost dies when whatever the modern version of the "choke" opens.

I got a service steering warning the first cold day here maybe -10C. It wouldn't let me change driving modes. It reset it self after I shut it down and restarted it.

I highly recommend that you push the mode button! It took a month before my ten year old son showed me I had sport mode. The extra power and refined steering assist is more suited to the way I drive. Would be nice if there was a way to stay in sport mode instead of resetting to normal mode when starting but it's easy enough to push the button 3 times.

Have you tried it with steering assist turned off?

Oh, I am aware of the mode button and have cycled through it, just I do not use it on a regular basis.

I have a Banks Pedal Monster that I use that gives me the throttle response I am looking for while in normal mode without having to adjust shift points that would be in Sport mode.

I have a '24 Lariat with just over 9K miles and I'm seeing the rough downshift and was just about to make a service appointment for it.

Let them know before you go in so they can do it all at the same time. I had to make another appointment for transmission issue when I took it in for service as my local dealership has techs for drivetrain and techs for oil changes. A new transmission is being delivered from Ford this week. I have still been driving it as they did not tell me not too after diagnosis and it is definitely getting worst. Somehow jumped out of Sport mode into normal mode getting on the freeway yesterday and engine rpm sticking when it is not changing down.
I am hoping it is not damaging the engine as well after the service department told me it would not do any engine damage?
Good luck with your diagnosis

My appointment is this Thursday and I'm going to really push hard that they give a proper road test and not just a drive around the parking lot. I'll update on what the results are.

No, I didn't know that was an option. I will look for it. Every time it goes below -15c the steering becomes quite stiff.

I am having a similar steering issue on my 24 lariat, and I have had the same issue on my 22 and 23 Ranger, it was so bad on the 23 that Ford ud not repair it and did a buy back on the 23.
keep in mind all 3 rangers including the 24 all exhibited the same issue although to different degrees, and yes all 3 trucks have been back to the dealer many times including many wheel alignments all to no success.
the wheel turns much easier to the left than to the right, the truck loves gental left hand turns on the highway and you have to force it to turn to the right, the force required to turn right is roughly twice required when turning the wheels to the left, most vehicles pull to the right due to the camber built into the road, this truck pulls to the left always requiring small jabs to the right to keep your lane and struggles to go straight, it is the same with the lane keeping both on and off although the lane keeping tends to fight the truck to the right as it is trying to keep the truck centered in the lane. the service department states this is because of the electric power steering. in the 23 the tech replaced the steering rack with no change at all. as I say two different ford deallers have worked on the situation on both the 22 and the 23 with no success, and again the situation on the 23 was so bad ford took the truck back. thoughts? is this what you mean with your truck, I am in south florida so there ios no hot or cold LOL

My Ten year old showed me a lot of functions I was not aware of lol.
Also look at the 360 adaptive cruise button which keeps my truck in center of the lane and literally steers itself ... lane keeping in my truck adjusts the steering to keep from changing lanes (when texting, jk) but bounces back and forth between the road lines... both buttons on left side of steering wheel.

Switching the Lane Keeping System On and Off

Ford Ranger Transmission replacement at 9000 miles {filename}

To activate the lane keeping system, press the button on the steering wheel.
To deactivate the lane keeping system, press the button again.
Note: When switching the system on or off a message appears in the instrument cluster display to show the status.
Note: The system stores the on or off setting until manually changed.

I'm sorry to hear about all that nonsense. That doesn't sound like the same issue that I have. My steering is buttery smooth and straight in -14c and warmer.

I have another mystery power train issue that I'm pretty sure is the transfer case, but that's a whole different can of worms.
