What is the consensis on the 2.7 v6 engine?

I’ve been mostly a lurker on this forum the last couple of years and have been on the fence between a new Tacoma (for the crewcab and 6’ bed mainly) and Ranger (best truck in its class minus a long bed option).

So I was trying to figure out which truck I want, that is before I took the 2.7l Ranger out for a test drive…. I drove two XLT Sports (first a 2.3l and then the 2.7l) on back to back test drives. While the 2.3l is a great engine in its own right, the 2.7l is absolutely fantastic!

As much as I wanted a 6’ bed, I’ll forego that wish and be happy with a new Ranger. Now my indecision lies with a FX4 with a 2.7l or go for the Ranger Raptor? I want more off-road chops from the factory than a FX4, but the Raptor is more truck than I need (thirstier too). I just wish the Tremor made a comeback, and I could pair it with the 2.7l… that would be my perfect truck!

The third option is get the 2.7 of your choice and add a Dobinson's suspension upgrade and tires of your choice. Not quite a Tremor, but darn close.

I checked dobinson and they didn't list for a 2025 ranger. Only up to 2024.......I have hibachi on my 2019, have had no issues.

The 2024 and 2025 are the same. Dobinsons website says 2024 on....

Yeah, that’s definitely an option, but I’m really hoping for the Tremor to come out as a ‘26 trim. When it was offered in the last gen, it was a decent deal, checked all of my boxes without any mods needed. Plus, since from factory, never a concern about voiding warranty. Some dealers play hardball if you have warranty issues and mods have been made. Then there is the hassle of the time and cost while a build is going on.

Last but not least, is having to deal with left over take-off parts when the build is complete. Heck, I still have motorcycle parts in my garage from moto mods for motorcycles I sold over 20 years ago.

I get that some people like to customize on their own and personalize their ride. I love seeing custom builds, but I rather write a check and be mostly done. Since there is no choice in bed length, I’ll definitely be adding a Yakima Overhaul HD bed rack for kayaks and paddle boards. Other than that and possibly swapping wheels for Method Race 703s, a Tremor from the factory would be amazing.

Oh yeah, I’ve been eyeballing the rest of the world Tremor and Wildtrak-X since they launched in other markets. The NA market has a huge gap between the FX4 and Ranger Raptor, so it only makes sense to slot one of those in the Ranger lineup. Ford is leaving money on the table every day we don’t have a Ranger Tremor. Plus the Tremor is available in the Maverick, F-150, F-250 & F-350, Expedition and soon to be trim on the Explorer as well (2026). Crazy not to offer it with the Ranger!

Depending on what you really want, the 2.7 is more than just $2200 upgrade, because the only way you can get it is with 4x4. That's $5700 more than a 4x2 with the 2.3L.

For me, 27 miles one way to work, 75% highway, 25% city. I'm right at 23MPH in my '24 FX4 with the 2.7.

As you mentioned, a bunch of other Ford vehicles get a Tremor package so it would definitely make sense for the Ranger to get one too. I was just perusing the Ford Australia website and I'm not seeing the Tremor anymore for the 2025 model year vehicles. It looks like they consolidated it down to just a single Wildtrak under the Raptor trim. Who knows. It would definitely be nice if they introduce it for North America. And to keep this rabbit trail on topic, the 2.7 would definitely be the right engine choice for any forthcoming Tremor package.

Though while we're wishing, I'd prefer Ford just introduce the Ranger Superduty for the US market. Complete with the snorkel...

While I don't want you to be right (especially with the Superduty), you certainly could be. Especially with regard to the Superduty. The Ford F-Series is king and Ford isn't going to do anything they perceive as cutting into those sales. Unless they rename the Ranger the F-100.
