What tire do I go with? (Coming from a KO2)

My 2025 lariat fx4 is such a great vehicle. Though lately with my KO2s im really missing the comfort of the OEM Wranglers but not missing the off road performance. I want a comfy tire that sacrafices just a bit of off-road capability but gains massively in on-road comfort and wet traction. Option A for me is the BFG Trail-Terrain but I fear it may be not ideal in the sand as I like to play around in it often. If anyone has any insight or another suggestion please drop a reply. Thanks and happy trails. Also perferably in a 285/70/17 with Sl rating.

I liked the Falken Wildpeak AT3W’s on my old Tacoma.

I don’t do tire reviews so I don’t have experience with enough brands to compare and contrast any two, except the stock wrangler at/s and the nokian outpost nat that I replaced the wranglers with.

The nokians handle well and predictably on road, wet or dry, but are a bit louder than the wranglers were. For the light off-roading I do (unmaintained roads in state forests or gamelands, fields, etc) the nokians have been great. Time will tell if they’re as durable as their tread warranty would imply, but I’ve been using their Hakka… snow tires for a long time and trust the quality.

When I get new tires, I'm going with the Falken Rubitrek. Comes in a 285/70/17, SL rating. I had to call discount tire to see if they could order a set for me and they ended up adding it to the website.
They're like the Wildpeak AT4Ws except more geared towards daily road use, while still having offroad capability. They're lighter and quieter than the Wildpeaks from what I've read, aggressive looking tread too.

First of all, ANY tire works in the sand because it’s all about airing down. It’s not mud where you need treads to bite in and grab. (I live near the Cape Cod National Seashore and the old timers used to use old airplane balloon tires w no trad!)

You need to come to the honest answer of what will most of my driving be and how many compromises you are willing to make for noise, ride quality, performance in rain, performance in snow ( both on & off road) as well as what “LOOK” you want. Once you honestly do this your tire choice will become evident.
Just look at the OEM tires come on Land Cruisers, Defenders and Range Rovers to see what the manufacturers know about where their vehicles will be driven…

you will be able to answer your own question if you do this.

Before my Raptor I had a 4Runner that i had put Toya open country AT3, they were quiet had great off road performance and actually improved my fuel milage over the stock tires.

I’ve put a lot of miles on Duratrac, Open Country and Wildpeak between Jeep Wranglers (2 door) and even a Subaru. Since the Wrangler is the closest match with lightness and bouncy tendency, I found the Wildpeaks better stopping power on the slab with the better siping than the Open Country but a similar block pattern. Don’t expect to stop in the rain on a Duratrac on a lighter vehicle, it doesn’t happen. Wildpeaks work on my Ranger like they were designed for it. I see a lot of them on neo-Wranglers (4 door) as well.

What is so bad about the Goodyear Wranglers? I've found that they work well for everyday use.

So far they have worked well fo me. Of course I don't have anything to compare the wrangler against.

My 2010 Explorer XLT had Goodyear Wranglers and they had a nice ride but not good on icy snow.
(I then switched to a 3 peak snow rated tire. ) I suspect that my 2024 Ranger with Goodyears will be the same in the snow? I'll get back to you in January 2026 and let everybody know!

If you're coming from BFGs then any tire you pick will be an upgrade. But, I’ve reviewed just about every brand on the market at this point and I still can’t find one that beats the Falken offerings. The A/T4W has the best ride comfort, traction, and wear that I’ve ever seen on an all-terrain tire. The A/T3W is also amazing if you can still find a leftover set in a vendor’s warehouse.
