Add a deflector to your hood. It will save your hood from paint chips but will also change airflow to greatly reduce the chance of wind screen impact/chips.

Small stone on highway thrown by passing truck made a 2 ft crack in driver's side windshield at 4000 miles. Safelite OEM replacement was $1111 (full glass coverage) and Progressive upped our rates in a month.

Progressive did the same thing to me. Any future glass damage I'll live with as possible or pay cash out of pocket.

Same. I had insurance cover a chip repair (not replacement) 3 years ago. Insurance rose quite a bit, and every time I do a quote from other carriers they note I had a claim in 2022 and thus raise initial quote further. Way more expensive to use insurance in the end to fill chip.

For a chip repair? Sad insurance companies do this. I’ve never heard of raising rates over a chip repair though, especially if you have a deductible? Who are you insured with?🇺🇸

Best thing that ever happened to my last van was a bad stone chip that cracked the screen in half down the middle.

Wasn't happy about it at the time, had just picked up a new puppy and was halfway through a 100mile drive back home, truck up ahead changed lanes and flicked up a large rock that I could see coming but too fast to actually avoid - hit the windscreen with an almighty crack right at the top/middle.

Watched a large crack open up over the remainder of the journey, running all the way from top to bottom.

Why was it good? The old screen was an official Ford one with a severe distortion that the dealer refused to replace - it was like looking at those mirrors at the carnival that are all distorted. Insurance excess to replace the now damaged windscreen was just £75. The replacement screen wasn't official Ford but was way better quality with no strange distortions.
