Hello all,

I figured I'd start a new thread as I took photos of the installation itself, as a little modifying of the adapter was required. That said- the adapter found here, which is listed as up to the MY23 does indeed work on the MY24's and up. You just need to cut a little plastic on the plug for it to fit, but the pinout itself is correct. The kit comes with both the 3 and 5 pin adapters; you'll be using the 5 pin.

The original thread concerning the Dongar

Here's the install-

This is the larger "main" piece of trim, showing where the clips that hold it in are. Two in the front, two in the back.

Closeup of the passenger side tabs. I pulled primarily from the driver side first, then down (towards the ground) and away on the passenger side. It took a little convincing, but with a decent pull it popped off.

Pin out of the plug. The dongar adapter's plastic guide is in the middle, not offset like below, so I took some snips and cut it flush down.

Cut to fit. I modified both ends of the Dongar harness, not the truck.

I melted a small hole on the indention you can see for the wire to come out and keep a more "oem" feel/look.

Its a ridiculously snug fit in there with all the plastic closed up, but, I was able to get the whole Dongar harness tucked away in there and just have a USB-C cable running out of the hole, with a little two sided foam tape to keep the cord snug.

And there ya go. Other than cutting that little hole in the side of the plastic, and trimming the Dongar adapter to fit, it was straightforward. I had more trouble messing with the plastic trim fitting than I did the install.

I also did the auto start/stop disabler thing by the 4D folks and that plug was a pita to get out. But now I don't have to push a button each time I start the truck, so I got that going for me. Which is nice.

Looks straight forward, will take another shot at it. I assume the Dongar Cable you got is the 5-Pin Type F?

That’s the one! I got it from Amazon so shipping was “free” but the product is the same. It comes with both in the box, the 3 pin isn’t needed.

The only discrepancy I could see is that it says that the auto-dimming mirror MAY be required. My truck has that so it wasn’t an issue but it’s worth noting.

I have the auto dimming mirror as well and saw that note in the Dongar compatibility info. May be to early to ask, but any conflicts/problems with Dongar interfering with any of the electronics in the mirror housing (traffic sign recognition system, camera, etc)?

None so far. After installing it I took the truck out for an errand, drove approximately 20mi round trip. Everything working as intended. If issues arise I’ll be sure to report back.

I should also add I had this adapter (a different pin out but still Dongar) in my Lightning that I sold and I also have installed my spouses Toyota EV and both have(had) no issues.

I don’t know what the draw of these cameras are but the mirrors seems to get more than enough power to have a little siphoned off.

I've got a dash cam and the adapter from random's vid on order and will be trying this soon. Thanks for the writeups/vids! I debated for a long time if I wanted a rear view camera too, but couldn't find a set with the tubular shape I prefer and no screen other than a BlackVue which is way outside of my budget. So front only it is! Wasn't looking forward to trying to hide the rear camera wire anyway with the headliner airbags and all.

I’ve done front and rear before and for me personally it’s overkill. Front facing will mitigate any loose interpretations of a collision to your insurance just fine. The additional context could be helpful but for the extra cost, time sink of pulling the trim down while navigating around the curtain airbags it’s just not worth it.

Viofo does make a very good 4K front 2k rear system, and it sends the power and recording through one cable back to the main unit, which is nice. I went with that setup for the Missus and it’s been great.

Yeah, those were kind of my thoughts. I also read somewhere that in almost all insurance claims with multiple dash cam views the company makes the ruling from the front camera only. So sure it'd be helpful to have the rear, but the front will prove what's important, aka the state of my vehicle/driving.

The Blackvue I was looking at does similar with a single cable to power it and send the video, but I've not really seen a way of running a wire from front to back via the headliner without dropping it that doesn't risk interfering with the airbags. (Some folks claim you can get a wire behind the airbag from the side, but I don't know that I trust that). Plus I'm wiring this camera into the mirror to avoid running cables. If I'm going to go that crazy I might as well have just hardwired the whole thing to begin with.

Thanks for posting this as it's the only place I could find info on installing the Dongar on the '25 RR. I was trying to remove the main trim piece and got all the clips undone and found one more attachment point. Ive edited this post thanks to Khamsin who knew exactly what it is. The cable below closest to the windshield side connects to the trim piece likely just to keep it from falling once you pop the clips. You can get your fingers in there and fiddle with it where it attaches to the removable trim piece and it will come loose. Thanks to both Khamsin and Randomquickness for the pics and video. Got my install of the Dongar 5 pin for my Garmin Dash cam done today.

If I’m looking at what I think I’m looking at, that’s a little plastic clip piece and not actually a wire. It’s just attached to that housing. It slides one direction (towards the passenger side I believe) and then allows the rest of it to come down. I just jiggled it one way or another and it came loose, didn’t require much fidgeting with it.

I’d pull mine back down real quick for a pic for ya, but she’s in the shop right now getting a bed liner sprayed in.

Does this keep the cam powered when ignition is off?

Unfortunately not, if you want parking/ignition off functionality you'll need to hard wire it.
