I would assume you pay both, yes, but we will see.

I personally think regular 4x4 is mostly not worth it, good AWD is more effective at all speeds, or locking diffs are more effective at lower speeds for non-AWD. But that is for my purposes, glad they offer different options.
I’ll be testing this theory with my Ranger as I opted for a 2wd with locker. No snow where I live, but the locker might come in handy if I get in a predicament on forest service roads.

I went with carbonized gray metallic. Wife wanted me to match her. Cause she’s weird but it looks good. Now if there was a green like I’ve seen on the raptor she would have been SOL.
I really wanted that Shelter green too.

Understandable. This is my first 2wd purchase ever. I did debate whether I should wait for the 2.7, but if it’s not even an option for the 2wd, then that makes any debate moot. A ~$2,000 increase is a lot more palatable then a ~$5,485 increase, especially when that number is even higher with taxes and interest if you get a loan.
Right now that’s just a rumor being passed by someone in this forum. Not saying it isn’t true or even unbelievable but that could change.

Rumor is a bit strong, I am not saying it is definite, I'm questioning what it will end up being based on Ford documents, such as this preliminary towing guide: https://www.ford.com/cmslibs/conten.../towing/pdf/2024-Ford-Ranger-Towing-Guide.pdf

And the earlier preliminary Body Builders Layout Guide also indicated the same, only 4x4 for the 2.7L. So those two different documents made me think it is a possibility. No answer from Ford or a dealer yet.

More Ford info conflicting on the 2.7L with 4x4 only or also 4x2. Still need the definitive answer though.

If it was me and I wasn't getting the Raptor I would wait for the 2.7. I know I would end up regretting it otherwise. I am not loving any of these midsized 4 bangers.
