Retail vs Stock.. is there a priority??

I ordered a Lariat a few months ago and according to Ford Chat, it’s “been entered into the ordering system” with no scheduled production date. I verified that my order is in fact Retail not Stock. While doing some online research, I’ve found quite a few dealers who have stock orders in production with confirmed delivery timeframes. I thought retail orders were getting priority??? To me, there’s absolutely no rhyme or reason to Ford’s prioritization. SMH…

The question should be does you dealer have a Ranger allocation if so for how many.
The dealers retail orders get picked before stock orders depending on allocation.

Not sure on how many they’ve been allocated. I do know mine is a retail order and they ordered it as a priority 3, so I’d assume it would get built before any of their stock orders. They are a very large dealership, with several stores in multiple states, so I have no idea!

It could be other Ranger orders were ahead of your order at the dealership.

Quite possibly. I did find an identically equipped Lariat which is being built the week of 12 March at an out of state dealership. I’ve contacted them and may cancel my existing unknown build date Ranger for a sure thing!

Someone more knowledgeable than me may know. I know they have allocations for the Raptors, but not sure on the other trim levels. I ordered a Lariat and it is a retail order but there are many dealerships with stock orders with VINs already. I reached out to my dealership about an hour ago and asked them about allocations for the non-RR. I’ll let you know what they respond with.

I believe it is just Ranger regardless of trim excluding Raptor which has a allocation of its own.

I got ahold of another dealer and asked if they had an allocation and the sales lady said they do for the XL and XLT. I told her I was wanting the Lariat and her reply was that she will let me know when they receive one.

Allocations are needed for any vehicle. And being a big dealer doesn’t necessarily mean you have a bunch. If a dealer sells a ton of F150s but only a small amount of Rangers, then they’re most likely going to get a bunch of F150 allocations but hardly any Ranger allocations.

Wow was unaware trims were separated or were they just giving you a line?
I do not know how true that is.

It's probably neither. They probably had X number of allocations and they ordered an XL and an XLT. So that filled their allocations this month. If they were scheduled before a retail order was placed (knowing the delays, they may have ordered them in August) then the retail will wait until they get more.

If you think that's confusing, try getting a Tacoma. You can't even custom order. You have to tell the dealer what you want, and they will try to get close. On top of that, with their distribution model, the distributor can tack on extra accessories and you're stuck buying them. On the other hand they must be efficient, because I've had a Raptor on order since June that's still not scheduled, but when I called about a TRD OffRoad Premium they were able to source one in 3 days exactly to my specs with a 2/1 build date @MSRP. (with an extra $300 in accessories, but at this point I'm done). So between that and the dealer honoring supplier pricing on the truck, I'm at the same money as a Lariat FX4 and I'm going to go that way.
