I have a 2024 Ranger XLT. Tonight, I was surprised to discover that the center console gear selection indicators for the transmission shifter do not illuminate! (Of course the gear position is shown on the instrument cluster.) Nevertheless, I can’t remember ever having a vehicle with a floor shifter for an automatic transmission that didn’t illuminate! Cheap move Ford!

My 2015 and 2019 F150 Platinum did not light.
Ford has been doing that for a while now.

Thanks for the information as it confirms my conclusion that there is nothing electrically wrong with my Ranger’s lighting.

My wife's 2024 Atlas has heating/cooling and audio controls (haptic buttons) on the console. They cannot be seen at all in the dark. So lame.

Yes, I noticed in the owners manual that with electronic transmission (Lariat) it lights up.

I have an XLT and if there is one of those stupid warning messages on the instrument cluster, the gear selection isn't visible. Its maddening

I've got an XLT and having non-illuminating gear indicators in the center console never really bothered me. I guess I'm just surprised at some of the other features Ford actually included with the XLT like inductive phone charging and power folding mirrors. But I do wish Ford would have given the XLT a glove box light and 265 tires.

It tells you what gear you're in, right on the Instrument Cluster.

Haha - I went through this same thing. Thought I had blown a fuse or something. Yes its displayed on the screen, but it is 100% engrained in me to look down as I'm going between park, drive and reverse, and I find it very disconcerting not to be able to see it in the dark!

I guess some people are creatures of habits, even bad ones. You should already know by feel where you're at and shouldn't have to look down for an automatic shifter. Shouldn't have to look down while shifting with a manual either. So it doesn't have glowy lights on the letters. 1st world problems.

I still try to push it forward to get into first gear. 🤣. 40 years of driving s 5 speed manual.

I drove a rental van where you pushed buttons one the dash ugh

i can remember a long time ago turning off a car and wondering why the Key wouldn’t come out, wasn’t in park….

personally any system that has to go through reverse to get to forward seems like a recipe for disaster,

it should go park to neutral and the Left and up to drive and right and down for reverse,

like a 5 speed manual.

oh and the lack of light on the stick doesn’t bother me. Never looked at it before.

i had driven 5 speed forever, well, all 2 years i had a driver's license and then got a 65 mustang with a three speed manual. i kept putting it in reverse since the pattern had reverse in the top left spot and then first was bottom left. it always scared people behind me, ha ha ha. once i let the clutch out though, i knew something was wrong, ha ha ha
