Bed rattle and crack

My 2022 Ranger Raptor diesel has 7,200 miles. I recently noticed a fissure stress crack in the bed exterior corner. Horrible rattle is coming from inside the bed panel. Obviously a weld or brace has broken free. When I took it to dealer they said it’s caused by my 100lb fiberglass camper shell ??? Not covered under warranty. Anyone experience same crack ?

Did you install the J-braces prior to adding the canopy? They seem to be required for anything that sits above the truckbed. Not sure if that would have helped but it could be a reason they deny the warranty.

All has to do with dimensional rigidity. The cap may prevent the flex accounted for within the bad design, thus directing such forces to the path of least resistance. If the OP didn't do what is required to run the cap...then the OP is in error. I find nothing comical about this.

Now, if the cap was sold & installed by a dealer...then that's something entirely different.

comical or not the owner's manual specifically calls it out as something you need to do.

I don’t care what the manual says and it’s not comical it happened. Shouldn’t even be an issue. I’ve never heard of having to add a special brace for a shell. Not much weight that is distributed evenly as well….thats just crazy to me. Ford should add the braces at the factory or design the bed differently. That’s a big flaw and that bed is f’d

Does anyone know if the J Braces are available here in the states yet? I plan on putting a Soft shell with a rooftop tent on mine and want to get those right away.

Dealer is saying that the clamps holding on the 110lb fiberglass shell don’t allow the flex in the steel bed ??? I’m still claiming a shit weld broke free. You can off road and jump this thing …..but can’t have a shell ??? Hmmmm

looks like I’ll be paying a body shop to fix what they can, the crack is getting bigger daily

This is a performance off road truck ?? I live in Baja, this truck is not Baja worthy, already had the turbo hose fall off intake, lane sensor problem and now this. I have 7,814 miles on the truck and bought it new. I hat a 2017 Ranger xlt 4x4 3.2 diesel beast I should of never traded for this weak Raptor Ranger

This is the 5G Ranger not the 6G so we are talking about a different car here.

None the less, the need for the J-brace on the 6G is pretty disgraceful. I had the J-brace installed within about 3 weeks of taking delivery of mine - just in case.

The Ranger Raptor 6G debuted in Australia and probably other markets as well in 2022, so the original post would be in reference to the 6G.

Yep they are a Ford part however I had the dealer install them so I didn't have to order them specifically and hence don't know the part number.

However, I do believe that the Ranger Raptor uses a different part number than the regular Ranger.

It was not particularly expensive to have the dealer install them - maybe $300 but it is pretty annoying that they don't come from the factory with enough strength to use the tub the way most people are likely to use it.
