So I've known my cam phasers were bad from the factory. I waited for official recognition from Ford that there was a problem before attempting a warranty repair. I had my truck inspected and the dealership agreed I had bad cam phasers. 6 weeks for the parts to arrive, 2 more weeks to schedule the repair. My truck has now been on the lift for 8 days. The first 2 days it got worked on. The next 6 days it just sat there. I am frustratingly close to starting a buy back from Ford. I have purchased 3 new Ford's in the last 3 years for quite a bit of money. The repair process is not going to make it easy for me to buy another one. I do love this truck...but who needs a $60k paperweight?

Your occupation indicates you're a Ford salesman. Where is your truck being worked on?

I would give em a shot at the repair before trying to buy it back but you were also probably lucky enough to not pay an ADM too though.

It is such a new truck parts delays are understandable (yeah Bronco Raptor uses the engine too but maybe different part numbers). I was a Benz tech, we had on occasion backorder Germany situations that took weeks for parts. I would guess Ford would decline it anyway since it is on a first attempt repair and not even 2 weeks, probably needs to be over 30days to consider it. Gotta remember, it is a pain for the tech too, he wont get paid till the job is done and booked.

My 2021 is getting a new engine at 50k miles and been in the shop 3 weeks now, 16th I think will make it a full month, been on his lift the whole time, he seems to have 3 lifts thankfully, would rather it stay on the lift. Engine came in yesterday so I hope to get it back next week. Been patient because no favors go to the pain in the butt customers. Just hope the tech working on it does a great job as you never know what kind of tech will work on it. Good or sloppy.

Good luck and hopefully it is done right.

Edit seeing the post ahead of mine: Surprised Ford still has these issues though. Didn't they learn from the gen2 Raptors? Sheesh

I just want the truck to be right. I've gotten the opportunity to hear 4 new Ranger Raptors start. 2 had bad vct's and 2 good from the factory. Heard several bad vct's on new Bronco Raptors as well. I don't want to get rid of the the truck, it is peerless. I am giving an opportunity...it's been 9 weeks and 1 day today since it was diagnosed. Where is the line between a patient and impatient person in this scenario? Yes they gave me a brand new loaner to drive, does that excuse knowingly shipping brand new vehicles with bad internal engine components? I know they knew about my truck before shipping. It was built 01/11/24. Shipped 04/19/24. Arrived 7 days later and had 97 miles on odometer when it arrived. All of the miles were from Ford (not transport companies) as I watched the trucks progress on VinView so I always knew odometer mileage. So how long is a fair time for me to wait?

Thank you for your insight.
Your an employee. That puts you at the bottom of the priority list.
Sorry for not precisely stating the obvious.

Just had my trucks cam phasers repaired, it took a total of 5 weeks! During the process the advisor was saying some of the parts that was ordered came in defective and had to wait on more parts. Just got the truck back 2 days ago and so far it’s sounds and feels ok, fingers crossed it stays that way. FYI I did talk to the tech once the work was completed, they are putting the same phasers back in it, so no updated phaser like the ones for the 3.5 ecoboost. That is a hard pill to swallow knowing it’s can happen again. Good luck with the repair.

If I understand correctly, in your case, 4 to 5 months passed until you took it in. Couldn't you continue to drive until the parts arrived and repairs were scheduled.

Are the symptoms of bad cam phasers immediate and noticeable? If I test drive a 24 with a 2.7, will it be obvious that they are defective? Or do the show up after a few hundred, or a few thousand miles? Is there harm of continuing to drive if they are bad, while waiting for repairs?

The only way you'll know is if you hear it on a cold start up. My only "symptom" is 12.9 mpg. And an annoying rattle on startup in my new truck. But I want to do the tune to the truck so I didn't want to add power to an engine with bad parts in it. I read on here someone else got their phasers replaced and then did the tune and then blew the engine. So I guess time will tell.

Why is your truck just sitting there? Why aren't they replacing the phasers?

I wish I knew. I'm kinda thinking about it like being in a restaurant and not wanting to eat spit. So I haven't asked them why my steak is taking so long...ya know?
