Mine is a 25 Lariat 2.3L, the engine is an absolute gem, love it!

Same. The 2.3 is tried and true. I’ve got 17,500 miles on mine. It’s an errands runner and a music festival travel trailer tower. We’ve got a long trip towing our travel trailer to Michigan coming up in 2 weeks. We’ve pulled this trailer from NC to MI, NC to CO & NC to FL before with an SUV so I’m looking forward to how this truck does. I have no doubt it will do great!

My stx, which is an xl with rims, was 32,5. 44k is way to much for an xl, no matter what you add.

Mine came with level2 tow package, rims, carpet, and locking rear axle for that 32,5.

44 gets you a higher xlt or a lariat here in south texas.


And the nissan frontier uses a 9 speed automatic that mercedes designed and asin builds. Its a huge pain to do fluid changes on though. It is way over built for the nissan v6 since its the exact same trans used in the v8 titan amd the nissan hd commercial vans.

Otherwise, i do think the mps 2.3 has more power too. My 2024 2.3 is totally fine for a daily driver though

Thanks for the fact check on the Nissan and the 9-speed. I loved the looks, but of all the mid-size trucks, I HATED how it drove the most. It had a funky interior (buttons all over the place and not intuitive), cramped back seat, etc. The V6 engine I thought would be good, but it was SO anemic down low, and made its power high RPM. Even the dealer said he was expecting more power down low. P.S. I saw that you read my reply, and for sure I would never pay $44 for an XL. I paid MUCH less than that OTD. Your Truck sounds awesome!

I can't believe your dealer tried to say it was 44k but acted like they cut it down.

My son's 2024 stx (same xl) 4x4 with locker, rubber floor rims but no tow package was similar to my truck's price.

I bet the frontier motor is actually a car motor. Like the engine in the new armadas came from the z cars.

I had an 01 frontier a ling time ago and loved it. I liked the looks of the new frontier but didnt like the trans and i bet gas mileage is not as good as we get. Also, its hard to lift them versus the ranger.

I think the 2.3 ranger xl is also the best truck you can get. I have said that many times. I looked at mavericks previously but they were on a stop sale when i went or i may have gotten a maverick. For my plans, that is a super truck. I dont live in the country and dont haul anything that doesnt fit in the bed. I mayb occasionally tow a tow dolly with a small car on it but its so rare that the maverick was the truck i was going to get.

Then i drove the 2.3 ranger and thats how it went down.

Oh no, The Dealer quoted the MSRP of $39K (window sticker). The $44.5K was the out the door price (prior to any negotiating), it included the Tax, Title, License fees, and the dealer Documentation Fees. The, "I got a great deal" part, was I paid SIGNIFICANTLY LESS, well under $40K "out the door".

I loved my Maverick and I hauled/towed more with that truck than 99.9% of the people in the 2 years and 80,000 Miles I owned it.

That being said, the 2.3L XL is a great pickup (of course)

I special ordered my 2025 Ranger FX4 Lariat with the new 2.3L engine, due to all of the stated upgrades. Plus it has a metal oil pan and no wet bet for the oil pump.

True. I was stating that I picked the 2.3L over the 2.7L because the 2.7 L does use a wet belt for the oil pump.

Another thing about the 2.3, it comes with a metal, overhead valvetrain cover which is rare these days, most engines come with plastic covers.

That's a fantastic price. Well done. My 24 stx had no tow package or locker but yes rims, running boards, sprayed bed for 34. In Maine that was the best I could do. Still bumming it doesn't have wiring to get a TBC going, but I will solve that eventually. The amount of tech that is in these things now, I don't see XL as a negative-other than the lack of wiring to build tow capacity. Also bought it a week before they announced the engine redesign. Not sure I mind the old engine, as it is fairly proven and I previously had a DI-only Ford that never had issues.
Really had my eyes on the Frontier as well, interesting points on the trans. Also didn't like the terrible payload numbers on them.

Had a 21 lariat with the 2.3, it was a great truck, if they didn't release the raptor i would still have it, but since they did i had to switch.

I considered a Frontier before I bought my previous '21 Ranger. But after seeing many on the road with rusted hoods and roofs, I passed. Plus, the '21 Frontier was severely outdated in interior amenities.
