One time I was on the freeway and it chimed and on the display there was a coffee cup and said I was tired and I needed to rest

I don't think I've ever seen the 'Hands on wheel' warning, even when use lane assist.
What I have seen is the Driver Alert Warning that says Rest Recommended. Driver Alert uses the front camera. That alert can be turn off.
this is my experience as well. i had a 2020 lariat and traded it in for a 2025 lariat and before i did i read a lot of posts complaining about this alert. i was thinking, gee that would be annoying but it wasn't enough to stop me from buying a 2025. i had my 2025 since mid august and have not had this warning even once. i also have lane keeping assist on at all times (mine is set to alert only...maybe that matters?)

I only had the "put your hands on the wheel" warning appear when I tested the lane assist system going into a curve. My hands were not on the wheel. It worked. Other then that incident the warning never appeared.

It’s not detecting your hands on the wheel. It just needs to move the wheel a bit to know you’re driving. I have lane keep assist turned off for everyday driving. It only turns on when I turn on my cruise control. I do find it really annoying when it goes off while I’m on a straight stretch of road. Im going straight, I don’t need to turn my wheel. But the truck disagrees and think making me swerve is the best option. They just need to put the blue cruise in the entire lineup and be done with it.

I never understand why people want all that electronic crap on their truck. I bought an XL model which has none of that stuff and I'm quite pleased with it. Let's ME drive, .....NOT the computer :sunglasses:
Here in Europe, all of that is mandatory not optional, however "keep your hands on steering wheel" alert is NOT mandatory. That is why would be great to get rid of it. :)

I like lane assist, active cruise etc alot, super nice during long freeway drives. Any pickup with very high balance point, heavy wheels etc is not a car I would like to drift or otherwise actively drive anyway...

the legalities, in north america at least are moot.
these warnings are simply driver aids with safety in mind. if there's a go around, feel free to try them out. you do after all own the vehicle.
On the flip side, if you've driven tired, and looked in your rear view mirror at a bridge you just crossed, and dont remember coming towards a bridge...these types of warnings are very helpful for you.

i don't think mine has that coffee cup warning since its an xl. i wish it didn't have lane assist but i have that turned off for normal driving and immediately turn it off when cruise is activated.

back in the day, i can think of a few times were that coffee cup warning would have helped though. i remember driving from san antonio to brownsville for christmas and i blinked but when my eyes opened again i was idling on the side of the road and everyone else in the car was asleep.

1 lb ankle weight at the 10 or 2 position and the truck will drive itself.

I have a 2025 Ranger Lariat 2.7. I am frequently getting the "hands on wheel" alert. I had this on my 2021 Ridgeline but the Ranger is much more sensitive and therefore more frequent if I don't have both hands on the wheel at the right place. It is annoying to me. I tried some strips of Velcro on the wheel thinking there must be a pressure sensitive sensor involved. It may have helped a little. But it is still too frequent for me. I appreciate the safety intent but it is not like I am driving with my knee. The system seems to want both hands in a specific place. Has anybody found a work around?

This doesn't tell me "all I need to know". What is this saying? That it's fixed? That it's broken? Thanks...
