I've owned my 2025 XLT for 2 weeks and I already hate the 12" vertical screen and lack of knobs

I knew when I test drove the Rangers that I would probably dislike the Infotainment screen set-up. But I didn't think I'd absolutely hate it so soon.

This was just an absolutely asinine design decision by Ford. I can't use it to do anything while driving. It's bad enough to not be able to easily control the stereo, but you can't really quickly control the HVAC either.

Sadly, I won't be surprised if people wind up dying in wrecks because of the damn thing.

Honestly, if I hadn't wanted the dependable V6 so badly I probably would've taken my chances with a GMC Canyon.

Screen orientation is suboptimal that's for sure. Even Tesla abandoned the vertical screen design.

I love the 12" screen, I just wish all of was usable for GPS maps. It was one of the main reasons why I did not buy a Tacoma; I did not like how their infotainment screen looked.
C’mon, man, you didn’t want a giant billboard stuck on top of your dash?

I too prefer vertical screens, although I’d take some extra physical buttons, as well.

I am guessing it is known that there are physical controls below the screen.
For Radio, for climate. As well as buttons on the steering wheel for Radio as well.

A few things I wish had physical controls like the heated steering wheel and heated seats.
I have gotten use to where they are on the screen, so it's not really a big deal.

It's not perfect by any means, but I am not really hating it at all.

The one button I want is for Screen Off. I live in a rural, very dark part of the world and these bright center screens suck on a dark night. They don’t dim enough, either. Jeep provides a hard Screen Off button the JL and it is wonderful.

I've been pretty happy with the lowest brightness setting, but ditto. Why can't you turn it off??

Even better, give us the old Saab Night Panel mode that turned off every interior illumination source except the speedometer. This would cost zero dollars, yet would improve nighttime safety in rural areas, especially for spotting deer.

GM did a pretty good job with that layout. Unfortunately it's in a GM though so.....

Guess we can't have everything.
Another brand I will never consider again.

My Tesla Model Y Performance has the perfect interior. Almost Z E R O buttons. At first I wasn't sure I'd like it, but now getting into any other vehicle feels like I'm walking into a blinged out, bedazzled crack house!

Man I love the vertical screen, I hate hate hate the stick on tablet look. My only gripe is the default layout on Android auto is somewhat restrictive, but honestly I haven't looked into it, might be adjustable. Also I basically never touch audio controls not on my steering wheel, or anything climate (aside from heated seats) on the console HVAC buttons. Not sure what you're trying to do so often while driving that needs the screen?

I was thinking those two buttons to the right also controlled not only the dimming of the gauges but also the center screen.

I do find the older I get that I do need to dim down the gauges and center screen at night, a bit more and more then I use to when I was younger.
