Hey everyone,

After a lot of discussion, feedback, and real-world use cases shared here on Ranger6G, we’re excited to officially release our Ford Ranger & Ranger Raptor 10" Tall Bed Rack RAIL System.

This product exists directly because of the conversations in this forum around bed racks, roll-up tonneau covers, and the need for more clearance for certain cargo setups.

Why we built it

Many Ranger owners running roll-up tonneau covers like the BAK Revolver were being told that bed racks simply were not compatible. At the same time, some builds needed more vertical clearance than a low-profile rack could provide.

Instead of forcing compromises, we designed a taller version of our Bed Rack RAIL System that:
  • Clears roll-up tonneau covers like the BAK Revolver and similar designs
  • Provides additional height for taller cargo
  • Retains the same modular foundation as our standard rack system
Key details
  • 10" tall configuration
  • Bottom of rack sits 212 mm (8.35") above the bedsides
  • Top of rack sits 265 mm (10.43") above the bedsides
  • Uses the same cross rails as our standard Bed Rack RAIL System
  • Fully compatible with existing American Adventure Lab accessories
  • Designed, manufactured, and assembled in the USA
If you already own our standard Bed Rack RAILS, we also offer the 10" risers separately so you can convert your existing setup instead of replacing the entire rack.

Use code: R6GRack to save 15% through the end of the year on this one.

You can see full details, photos, and specs here:

We want to sincerely thank the Ranger6G community for the thoughtful feedback and problem-solving that helped shape this system. Community-driven design is something we take seriously, and this product is a direct result of that process.

If you have questions, want to confirm tonneau compatibility, or have ideas for future improvements, feel free to ask here.

Thanks again for the support.

That's nice. Not my use case (unless something changes), but that's a well thought out system and kind of customer service that needs to be highlighted.

I guess the next step is something to get it or separate support above the roof line for a canoe, sup, surf board, lumber, pipe, ladder, etc?

and do you have a side view of how much of the rail is covered?

that was the issue with the angled support covering too much of the rail so it interfered with the tonneau cover on the rail.

which I am pretty sure you fixed with this design.

and can you run a cable up through the bed rail through the bracket for lighting or a radio antenna?

I would be open to either way (separate attachment to get items above the roofline or new/taller risers. I'm a little concerned that if we just made taller risers that these crossrails would be too long. They work well at this level, but I'm not sure they would work well (they may be too long and stick out from the sides too much, visually) that high at the roofline. So, that may force the new riser system to be an attachment. The cool thing is that if we did it that way, it would also work for the low rack as another level of attachment surface. Might be some interesting things to come out of that.

You're correct to question the bedside coverage. I did design around that. Here are a couple of images to help show what is different about these risers vs the low profile risers.

Huge thanks to @clarke for going to the trouble to get these measurements. It was crucial in getting this to market without having a truck w/ tonneau in the shop.

If you'll notice in the rendering below, special provisions were made to chamfer the bottom of the legs and shorten the mounting component (that sits between the outside flanges of the risers) to more than accommodate the sealing flange of the tonneau cover. You can just see the edges of the covers for the attachment holes poking out below the inner edges of the risers and in the photo from @clarke those caps are fully visible outside of his tonneau cover.

As for running a cable through, unfortunately, Ford did not provide provisions for that. There are only two holes in each of the mounting points. We have to use both holes for longitudinal stability. Running wires will be up to the customer to figure out based on the tonneau cover they have. Usually, you can run the circuits behind the cab and up the front end of the rack eliminating the need to go through the bedside all together.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

That's great to hear! Thanks! This truck is a game changer. It's as close to a Wrangler offroad as there is, not counting the Gladiator, but with soooo much more comfort and performance at speed. It's an exciting vehicle.

I hope these are not taking manufacturing time away from your other products. I ordered the set of Molle bed panels for the bed walls during your black Friday sale and there is still not even an estimate on when they will be built and shipped to me.

Hi @AdventureLab , thanks for the mention and
thanks for getting them on the store. I have them in my cart ready to order!

A have a quick question though.
Since you said you had to use both mounting holes, still the spacers and threaded mounts you created work with them or do you need to make a new version? (I ordered some for black Friday, so I'll need to cancel those if they won't work for this application).

About the higher elevation bars, I would prefer a taller riser based kit, rather than something that ends of having stacked crossbars. I like the idea of not having multiple sets of bars to store. If you can swing it though, no harm in making the taller risers have an allowance to have two cross members on the risers at the same time. It might be as easy as having some extra holes lower on the riser.

If you made taller risers to bring the existing crossbars up to roof level, couldn't you make some cool cross bar end caps to make it look more intentional? Perhaps design them so they can take small lights in two possible positions? (Angled down to illuminate the ground on the sides of the truck and/or in the bed and/or straight to the sides?). I think it would be cool to have ground facing lights on one side with an awning and then bed facing lights on the other side.
Also, I have two canoes, so I was planning on making mine wider anyways with some Ipe rails when needed.

Thank you for the purchase! We do have multiple people in the company. Some handle manufacturing and some handle R&D. Those roles do not overlap responsibilities. I posted a video to our Instagram account a few days ago explaining the outcome of the Black Friday sale.

The spacers do not change for these taller risers. We have always needed to use both holes with the RAILS.

Noted!

Anything is possible, but the current RAILS would be way too wide for what you're describing. Notice the down flanges at the ends of the crossmembers that attach them to the risers. Those flanges are the reason this assembly is so stout. We could definitely sacrifice strength to make it more flexible, but that is probably not something I am interested in. We'll just have to start on the taller setup and see how it evolves. To be fair, I didn't think we would be able to use the existing crossmembers with these risers either. 😂 So, anything is possible!

I’m not on instagram, could you send me the video of the outcome of the Black Friday sale directly, or post it here, as nobody from your company has reached out to me about it since the initial email informing me of the delay in product fulfillment.

Forgive me as I'm sure this was discussed but I didn't see it mentioned on this post. Does it have the ability to mount to the BAK Revolver with tslots?

Not currently. We will change out the small mounting plates at the bottom of the risers to account for the t-slot spacing. I haven't had anyone interested in doing that yet. If you are, and don't mind pulling some measurements, we should be able to knock out those new parts quickly.

You don't have to have an account to see it. Any unshipped orders are just waiting on powder and assembly at this point. If you want to message me your order number, I can dig up specifics.
