Anyone else’s OCD triggered by only half of the non-Raptor Ranger’s taillights being functional.

The Raptor version for whatever reason actually comes with a fully functional taillight.

I'm just glad we've got red brake lights and amber turn signal on the Lariat. Not sure what color the Raptor is.

Could it be as simple as cost cutting measure?

I don’t know, just seems bit strange to me , aside from looking odd, the cost of putting the rest of those led bulbs in the housing could not cost more then a couple bucks, and to me brake lights and turn signals seem like such a basic safety 101 sort of thing, it just makes no sense to leave out the bulbs in the half of the tail lights, given the safety importance of their visibility.

Plus just looks weird, makes me think the bulbs are burt out in them.

the almighty $$$ is why. and the raptor uses the "Level 3 tail lights" Lariat and XLT and maybe the xl use level 2 tails, and the stx, and if the xl doesnt use lvl 2, use all halogen lvl 1 tails. the xlt has 9 halogen bulbs. the 2 front turns, 2 rear turns, 2 reverse, and the 3 in the 3rd brake(2 cargo, 1 brake) I put leds in all of them

hit the nail on head. I might try and find a junkyard set of lvl 2 tails in a year or so and cut the bottom where the reflector is, and see if I can add some diode dynamics led strips under the reflectors, kinda like what I did on my old 12 escape. but the red dual function ones not the switchbacks I had.

Btw @cc1999 your Lariat could use a bumper sticker from the 80's that read "Don't like my driving? Stay off the sidewalk!"

Just to be clear, I am in no way trying to belittle any Ranger owner in anyway.
‘I actually own both trucks I pictured.

I noticed the other day only small portion of these large taillight assemblies seemed to be lighting up on the trucks I bought for my business.

I can safely say it would not have changed my decision to buy them, nor will it effect my future continued transition over to them as our full size trucks age out, I am still planning to continue buying more Rangers wherever I can make them work for our business needs. They are all great trucks from XL to Raptor models.

I was in hopes when I posted this thread that someone else had the same thoughts or concern and maybe knew of an aftermarket solution, maybe a kit of sorts to somehow light up the lower half of the taillight assembly .

I would gladly spend $100-$200 bucks per truck to improve taillight visibility on my fleet trucks.
The main reason I bought Lariats was to get all the safety tech I could get on these trucks.

I have never looked into the cost of a Raptor tail light assembly nor do I know if it would be as simple as plug and play on a XL-Lariat trim truck. I am just assuming to replace the entire assembly it would get really pricey, even if it works, was in hopes there might be an aftermarket solution at a reasonable cost.

Lol yea I tucked it up on the side of my shop/barn to keep it out of harms way why we wait for up fit parts to come in.
It’s probably a couple weeks from being ready to go into service.

I added my diode dynamics c1r's to mine. right where they are 2 are 2 random holes, seemingly in the perfect spot, and the hole was the size needed for bracket for the c1r's... Using the 7pin trailer harness, I was getting trailer brake/turn errors, but all I did was as per the ford body builder guide(upfitter guide) was tap the 3rd brake light wire at the bcm, and run a wire back. it powers the brake module on my c1r's, and my cap. the rest of the 7pin harness gives me my marker lights, my ground, and my reverse lights.

you can see where I cut the dd wires off their passthrough harness and capped them, and then like I said the bcm wire feeds the brake. so while I lost the functionality of them flashing with my hazards(the module needs 2 signals to flash left and right, so if you had foot on brake, and turned on turn signal, they would still be solid brake)

It's been interesting reading about all of your trucks--past and present. Farm equipment. Sales guys. Kansas--wide-open Kansas it seems. Certainly curious about what you do with all the trucks.

I never noticed a difference between all the Ranger models. Only person that sees my tail lights is the guy doing my yearly safety inspection and other drivers following behind me
I do know that I have LED headlights which work great, but my fog lamps are definitely halogens

The XL actually doesn’t suffer from this problem. Its incandescent taillights are a simple red-yellow-white stack.

I do appreciate that Ford uses yellow for the indicators. So many manufacturers have moved away from that, and I believe it’s a mistake.
