I'm having a hard time understanding the issue here. Now I've never installed a tonneau cover so...
If the rails have a lip that sit flush on the caps what difference does the thinkness makes? The tonneau should be flush.

This assumes the clamps are not an issue but how would that be an issue? Wouldn't the clamps just have a bit more open space?
Depends on how they are bolted or clamped down. I ordered the EGR rolltrac and it bolts to the inside 4 bolts on the plastic bed cap and has brackets and rails that have some slotted holes. I don’t know if there is enough slop for them to go lower or if they need a new bracket. They also hook on the front of the bed which could be a problem besides the front rubber seal that will probably be too thick now.

Most tonneau covers bolt into the holes in the side of the bed here (for the 6G Ranger.) The rail then extends over the plastic bed cap and rests on it. That's a fixed height. So it will extend into mid-air over the thinner bed caps on 2026. None of my 3 covers (Bak or Truxedo) have enough adjustment in the fasteners to compensate for the height difference.

Ahh ha, so tonneau covers that clamp i.e. squeeze the rail to the bed side may still work.

But a potential issue may be with a bed extender. The vertical supports of the extender may hit the tonneau if now lower.

don't those bed extenders have rubber bumpers on the bottom and top of the feet? you can trim those down to get the height where you need it. (i added an f150 bed extender to my 04 edge and i had to trim the feet and the center bars to make it thinner since my 04 is a stepside ranger)

i am guessing more use a clamp

and often the clamp ones use the hole also, so the clamp might have to be changed

im guessing they all have some sort of generic clamp that doesn’t use the factory hole that they could ship

the one that bolt directly might need a hole drilled out.

I think I may be okay with the Leer hf650m, should be delivered today. But bad weather here for next 5 days at least in the NE.
The clamps seem to just clamp rail to bed side, no existing holes required.

Air gap is definitely smaller. There's still 1/4" or so. It would probably hold a fair bit more weight than the old design. Nothing mentioned in the '26 owners manual, though.

Looks better but will still leak. Wish they made them solid but with an ident in where you can cut. Not actually make them so easy to removed .

Too late for me
I got a 2026 RR and assumed Ford wouldn't change the rails/sides in the middle of a cycle, so I bought a Leer HM650 that now sits half an inch above the rails. Anyone knows if Leer has an actual contact number? I'm really hoping this can be an easy clamp/rail update...otherwise I'm out $1200 and still need a tonneau cover.

I do think it looks better. But I have $3k in tonneau paperweights now

I emailed Bak to see if it's on their radar, and there's any opportunity to get new hardware without replacing the whole covers (I have both hard & soft from them for different purposes).
Hopefully they can update the mounting system and hardware and sell it for those in your situation. Would be a waste to get rid of the tonneau just to buy a new one.

Me too 2026 XLT still in box.
They have a contact form, asked once no reply, just asked again.

Can you help me understand how it's raised 1/2"?
Mine still in box as I may have to return. Anyway the rails have a what I'll call lip that rides on the bed cap. So if the cap was say 1" high or 3" hight wouldn't the tonneau cover still fit flush?

the new one is lower with respect to the holes and bottom of the rail.

so depending on how it clamps that can be an issue.

Mine is raised 1/2 inch. It’s bc the clamp is a fixed height, although there is some wiggle room it is not enough. It will be easy to fix once Truxedo’s engineers respec the clamps. I’ve got the Pro X15.

The clamps index to pre-existing holes, so the rail lip sits half an inch above the rails.

Thanks
The Leer hf650m doesn't appear to use any existing holes, more of clamp rail to bed hence my ask.
Posted a pic up above.
