Decided to convert my little Ranger XLT from the standard group 48 battery to a 94R AGM. It's a pretty simple conversion.....all you need are the corresponding battery tray and insulator cover from a Lariat and you're off like a prom dress. All other components are the same....both cables reach easily and the hold-down bracket transfers over. When researching the project, the only part numbers that differed between a 2.3L XLT and Lariat were the battery tray, insulator cover and battery itself. The 94R conversion caused zero clearance issues and looks like it was factory installed. I get the impression that this is being done by a lot of Ranger owners because until recently the parts were on national backorder with no ETA. And if you're buying the battery from Costco, their 94R AGM Interstate Batteries do not require shims at the posts......everything clamped just fine.

So the lariat has the 94R AGM battery already? Asking because I’m too lazy to look.

Sounded that way from his description, but like you I’m also too lazy and will wait for the reply 🙀

That's what I gathered from the OEM Ford parts website. It seemed like Rangers with V6 engines used the 94R as well.

Did some Googling and it seems the 2.3 trucks come with a group 48 (H6) but the 2.7 and 3.0 trucks come with a H7 regardless of trim level.

AGM is definitely the way to go…been running them in vehicles for years if/when the OEM craps out.

Gave my cousin my VIN(works in the parts dept at my dealer, confirmed a 94r did go in a ranger(musta been the v6's and listed as compatible)) and he got me a second battery as per my vin. my 2025 xlt 2.3 i4 came with a 94r already for the starter battery(according to my cousin, Ill have to check if its a 94r or not, but my aux battery is a 94r), and I added a second for my auxiliary setup, to keep my accessories from drawing down the main.

What aftermarket tray did yiu go with? Every one I've seen causes issues with the washer fill tube.

Please make sure you add information on coding for this. As you change the chemistry, the capacity, and the state (new fresh battery), you need to use a tool like FORScan to reprogram the ody Control Module and reset the BMS.

If changing the battery for same type, the manual procedure (flash high beams and brake) is fine.

Can you share the part numbers? Thanks
Here're the numbers that were on the Ford Parts parts tags:

The insulator cover: MB3Z-10A687-A
The battery tray: MB3Z-10732-K

....and Ford shipped everything FedEx overnight from Livonia, MI at the price of standard shipping.

The high-beam flashing/brake pedal pressing routine seemed to work.....because I got the battery dash light flash confirmation at the end.
