I want a QUIET exhaust

This may be the dumbest topic posted here because I know most people love the raptor exhaust and want to improve it.

I want the opposite. I crave silence as much as possible. I'm looking for any suggestion on how to achieve a quieter exhaust, even if it means removing the active exhaust system altogether.

I am very sensitive to noises, and even quiet mode is too loud for my taste when it comes to prolong interstate travel (rpms above 2k). I bought the raptor for is capabilities and not it's exhaust.

I've never modified the exhaust on any vehicle I've owned in the past and don't know if i should seek out the help of an exhaust shop, dealership, or just a good mechanic.

Any suggestions? Should i be looking at full exhaust systems, mufflers only, or resonators only?

Side note, I've already put sound deadening material in the doors, and will do the roof and back wall soon. I may or may not do the floor as it appears to have a good amount of insulation already. I didn't do it to help with exhaust sounds, but it does appear to have a mild benefit.

You'll have to sound deaden the floor if you want to remove as much exhaust noise as possible without modifying the exhaust.

Also note, that the exhaust's valves are also linked to throttle position, so no matter the mode you are in, if you floor it, the valves will open. This is to prevent back pressure. So given this, the engine needs a decent exhaust flow to be able to provide the power it does - I would be very careful with removing the valves as they are there for more than just noise

I know that many shops that apply undercoating also offer a sound deadening coating as well, but my feeling is that it likely won’t do much for the exhaust. I feel like these trucks are so precisely engineered that modifying this would likely cause problems and void your warranty (if that’s important to you)..

I’m trying my best to not be disrespectful, but here goes…
If the noise is intolerable, I’d consider stepping down to a Lariat with the 2.7 liter. Those will still outperform a ZR2 Colorado and give you most of the comfort options that your Raptor has.

All joking aside, here is a funny exhaust story.
I was diving my GT350 with the distinct and loud Flat-Plane crank exhaust when I pulled up next to a Tesla Model S Dual Motor at a light. I looked over at the Tesla and his windows were up and very tinted. My windows were down because the Shelby exhaust was outside.
The light turned green and he floored it... he was gone! I didn't even try because I would just be wasting fuel.
We got to the next light, and I pulled up next to him and looked over. He rolled down the window and said, "I'm surprised you didn't give it a go back there?"
I replied in jest with, "Look buddy, I could tell by your after-market exhaust that that thing has been heavily modified." I thought it was funny.
He gives me a look and says, "F$#k You!"
That Tesla driver had ZERO sense of humor for sure...!!!!!

Where I live, by far the loudest cars are the Chargers. Also, the most likely to want to challenge the RR while out and about.

Tesla drivers are annoying, dense, and usually drive slow. No offense to the few that are not...they only want to race, as that's THE ONE thing a model S with dual motor can do well. Go in a straight line and win...then go back to charge their car as it depletes most of their range/battery lol

You can absolutely have a quiet exhaust system. You'll need to lose the active muffler and get old school quiet mufflers. They do still exist. Maybe even replace the tiny useless resonators with something better but that probably won't be necessary. Any good muffler shop can handle that.

To those that say he bought the wrong truck - f*** off a**holes! You're unhelpful and just plain wrong.

I bought the RR for it's suspension first, it's engine second. I wanted a RR, if not for that model I have no use for a Ranger, I have a full size truck that does truck stuff. I might have wanted an extended cab longer bed Ranger, but Ford dropped that model. The 4dr teenie bed isn't something I need. I do love the RR though, it's just plain fun and I have no regrets. But...
That exhaust note sucks, it sounds like a riding lawnmower. I've owned v6s that sound great, this does not.

I think if you remove the RR exhaust to go custom pipes there are going to be issues but I am not an engineer or mechanic.

You might research the cabin decibels of past vehicles you have owned that you could tolerate and compare what you get in the RR after your sound deadening is completed. Maybe you won't need to do anything else. Maybe acoustic glass? Maybe quieter tires for highway driving?

There is truck structural noise and wind noise and there are products for both. Talk to your local installers about what gets you to the amount of noise you can tolerate.

I had a 4 banger as a loaner while my ‘24 expedition timberline was in the shop. Those till sound terrible.

Ironically my HO 3.5 in the expedition and my previous 5.0s in f150 were all extremely pleasant sounding. That’s part of the irony is when I get an expedition it is whisper, quiet, compared to the Ranger, despite putting out more power.

But I bought the raptor for the capabilities. 4 banger doesn’t come close.

Had something similar happen about a year and a half ago when I still had my Fiesta ST. Difference was I revved the engine so he would think I was going to race. Light went green, he floored it and took off. I passed him about a mile down the street....he was pulled over with the County Sheriff getting out of his cruiser.....I saw the cop sitting there, he did not. Got a good laugh over that....I'm thinking he didn't.

The exhaust sound was ALWAYS a deterrent, but i was hopeful the quiet mode would be enough. It is half the time, the other half i really find myself annoyed.

I do a lot of hunting and road trips camping offroad. Starting up a loud vehicle in the morning that disrupts the quiet just hurts my soul.

I've considered acoustic glass and different tires when these wear down (10k so far). The tire noise isn't the issue. Wind noise is not that much worse than other vehicles.

But i might change both when needed.
