I thought I was missing something

Just picked up a 2025 XLT Desert Sand and noticed the top rail behind cab has no trim.
Got a great price so didn't really care. So just for peace of mind - I did some research and even found a good pic of a White Raptor that doesn't have a cap on the top rail behind the cab either. So all is good.

I'm assuming that even on your 2025 Lariat - there is no trim there?
Eventually I will install a tonneau cover but thought it was interesting that there was no trim there. Can't remember if my Ranger5G had trim there but I think it did.

No trim there on my 25 xlt high either. The 16 tacoma that I had didn’t have a cap there either.

No one gets trim there. The tonneau covers come with a gasket to fill that space

From what I can tell from my research it appears that is the way the 2025 XLT came.

When the spray in bed liner was done on mine --it covered that area on mine .

The flatter caps on the 2026 Rangers will help with this height disparity, although not eliminate it.

This seems to be standard industry practice, although the engineering reasons elude me.

I had the same question after arriving home with my new to me 2024 XLT. Googled and discovered that it was ‘normal’. I am planning to buy a drop in bed liner. I am hoping it is designed to cover that untrimmed sheet metal. Does anyone have a Duraliner installed they can share pics of?

Thats typical for evwry truck everywhere, I believe. Its why truck caps come with a thick piece of weather seal to fill that area.

IF you get a decent tonneau cover, most of them include a strip of foam to put on top of the back rail to ensure. seal there

None on the Lariat. Mine is now covered by the rubber gasket and foam strip for the Retrax pro MX tonneau. Would like to give Ford design engineers credit for that but who knows?

Yep, my cover had a beefy foam strip with adhesive to put on the rail before installation. In researching tonneau covers, most of them come with that foam strip.
