Because none of us can leave well enough alone (and why would you?), I took the last several days to complete the almost obligatory door sound deadening and Focal IS690/IC650 upgrades. I was pretty sick but the wife is out of town and I had nothing but time (and lots of Theraflu).

I ended up getting the Focals shipped in from Germany because they were almost half the price compared to Crutchfield. Siless sheets came from Amazon.

All my info came from this forum and from YouTube. I'll spare everyone every single picture of every single step, just mix in some variety

We just got done with a heavy, wet snowstorm here in Denver and the RR was outside, but I was a bit surprised HOW wet it was inside the door panels. I had to run a fan into each door for a good hour+ to dry them out. The back of each speaker was also very wet 😐

Each door got two layers of Siless: 120mil Max and then 200mil Hybrid. I didn't go for "extreme" coverage, just the largest flat panels

Fronts wrapped up with the IS690 and some NVX foam surround (it is 1" thick very squishy foam and presses against the grill)

Back doors are similar, just with less harness. The one thing about the Focal IC650 is they don't have the big plastic "standoff" that the B&Os have, so they sit further back in the door. The NVX foam wasn't useful because the gap is well over 1"

The speakers came with nice metal decals, which I installed for now. They are just stickers so if I decide I don't like them... pop

And for your listening enjoyment, a comparison of the front (with sound deadening complete) and the rear (no sound deadener yet). It is so satisfying now. Every time I walk past the truck I tap on the doors because it sounds oh so much better.

nice job - how are you liking the sound difference so far?

focals off ebay? I've had the 6x9s bookmarked from a german seller but didnt see the ford specific rears, just a toyota version which I'm assuming is a different mount or wiring setup

Sadly the truck hasn’t actually left the garage since I finished up, nor have I listened to more than a few songs with the speakers. But feeling better now so I’ll venture out tomorrow and test out all the sounds

I did get the Focals off eBay. Seller was extremeaudio_carhifi

Very cool mod! One of the first and only things I did to my previous truck was a speaker swap.

Is this with the stock head unit and all, a straight speaker swap?

Yes. The Focals are plug-and-play with the stock Ford wiring harness

A lot of people also swap the sub. I'll drive and listen for a few weeks before I decide. It can get into a very expensive rabbit hole with DSPs, subs, amps, etc...

I don't have a sub but I bet a speaker swap would be nice. Thanks!

I literally just did this exact same mod last weekend. The Focal Inside speaker upgrade and 2 layers of Siless deadener to all 4 doors. 1 layer of the foil backed mastic and then a layer of the hybrid 3in1. And YES I rattle a knuckle down the door as I walk by now as well. Wife says I’m an idiot….and she’s right…she’s Always right!

But yesterday I went after the headliner. Wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. Just had to be methodical and logical and it came down and went up w/o losing or breaking anything. Figured I’d only drop the h/l once so I’d go big and ended up doing 3 layers with 2 layers of the hybrid, but this hybrid was the 2in1 - much softer & more pliable for the odd contours of the roof. I did have to shave all the foam blocks in the h/l down a heavy 1/4” to accommodate the added thickness of the deadener.
WOW the stereo awakens another level with the roof being done as well, and man did it quiet down the interior even more. If you can do the doors then you should consider the roof. It’ll be worth it! Then you’ll be climbing up on your running boards rapping a knuckle off your roof….yeah she caught me doing that to…….

After I applied my sound deadening and before I installed the new speakers I sprayed surface shield (a lanolin spray) inside my doors to help prevent rust down the proverbial road.

Went for a drive today and one of the clips for the handle surround in the driver's door was rattling. Pulled the trim... only to have two of the three metal clips fall INTO the door panel

For some reason those clips didn't want to stay attached to the trim piece on that door specifically

Guess I'll be removing that panel again...

This is only the second thread so far I've been following and I can tell it's going to cost me owning his truck lol.

Side question: We used to hang out at therangerstation forums....is this one now pretty much the place to be for these new gens?

Just the sound deadening in doors is a improvement. The focals are a huge improvement. Add a good sub , amp and dsp and it is a game changer. All of which I did.

Had thought originally about changing out the b and o amp but Im good now. Huge improvement over stock.

Man either you know what you are doing or some serious balls to take apart the headliner on a 60k truck
