I am still trying to decide the pros and cons of the Ford Ranger extended warranty. Never bought an extended warranty before but with all the electronics, not sure now. I am able to fix most minor mechanical problems, but not when electronics are involved. No problem mastering the Sync 4a - but that's not a tranny, blower or major mechanical component.

What are you doing?

If you are planning on tuning. Don't get a warranty because it will not be honored. I got a full 8 year 125k warranty from Granger but if I knew about the tune earlier and I might not have gotten it.

Got the 7 year 100k. First time buying an auto warranty but, also first time I could aquire 25 bucks over cost and finance at 0 %. The live wire shocks can't be cheap to repair or replace and it's a total plus if you decide to sell and it's transferable. Would you buy a used RR with or without ?

Probably not. The extended warranty is only really good after the factory has ended for the most part and it restricts some of things you can or may want to do. Things break, it happens. Its either pay now, or pay later.

I got the 7yr/ 100K on my lariat 2x in Calif .Approx $3500 Can't shop for prices in Cali because of stupid regulation. I'm not really super mechanically inclined and a bit lazy...So for peace of mind on the electronics and the bigger things I'm ok with it.

I got the Ford 7/100 because I plan on keeping the truck the long. I have always fixed anything mechanical, including many engine swaps on my vehicles that didn't require a machine shop. Now the caveat includes electronic engine controls. I still do my own maintenance because I know it’s done right.
Im in the period of life where time is more valuable than money, so the extended warranty made seance for me. YMMV.

I bought the 8 year / 85,000 mile extended warranty from Granger. I don’t drive a lot of miles, but plan to keep my Ranger for a long time. With 20% down and 0% financing for 18 month, it seemed like a “no brainer” for me. With a new generation of Ranger and inflation at such high levels, cost of repair in the future could really hurt retirees like me. If I break it, I’ll fix it - But if it’s a warranty issue - I like this protection!

I did not buy before and did not with this one. As with all new vehicle purchases, I keep an eye out on forums and listen to my truck for common issues and reliability. If more than normal are present, I would opt to purchase before the factory 3/30 runs out. Otherwise, just pay as you go if things come up.

I have NEVER bought an extended warranty and probably never will. The reason the dealers push extended warranties is that they make a lot of money on them. The company selling you the extended warranty is making a big profit on them. If they are making a profit then someone is incurring an unneeded cost. That someone is you, the buyer.

When we had our motorhome I opted to not take an extended warranty, much to the chagrin of the finance manager pushing one. When something goes wrong in a motorhome the cost of repairs could run into the tens of thousands but we still felt it was a very poor use of money to buy something we probably not need.

Another question for the group… if paying for RR in cash would there be any reason to buy an extended warranty up front? Why tie up the cash when you could shop for an extended warranty towards the end of the factory warranty?

I buy them now, get them at Grainger it’s much more cost effective. One major issue and it has more than paid for itself. Today’s vehicles are way different than the good old days. Hell, just buying a specialty tool for a repair costs a ton. For me there’s no doubt, I want the warranty but this is a personal decision.

The argument for not buying now is that you keep use of that money for a while longer.

The argument for buying now is that by the time you buy it later, the warranty price may be higher.

With 1,100 or more for a replaced LED headlight assembly, a lot more expensive high-tech things, and suspension/shock potential costs, there is yet another argument for buying a warranty.

They do make money on the warranties no matter whether you get one or not.

Question is; did any of you negotiate and get the employee cost? Got the employees cost right off. If they didn’t accept, I would have just turned down their regular price.👍🇺🇸

Yeah, I was offered "employee cost" at $1,950. I looked later on Ford's site and it was $1,800-something. The guys selling the warranties are no more honest than the ones selling you the vehicle.

I got the 6yr/100k (I put on a lot of miles). It seems to be priced the same for all 2024 Rangers and with Raptor parts being much more expensive to replace it seems like a no brainer. One front shock is almost $1400 for example which is more than I am paying for the warranty.
