Same for me. I can average 25 driving in the mountains of Colorado, but on my Thanksgiving trip to St. Louis and back, I averaged 19.5.
Hey nice truck! You have good taste.

Yeah it hurts because here in South Dakota/North Dakota/Wyoming the highways are 80 mph so to not look like a grandma driving to church you have to kill your MPG lol

After doing a lot of testing (with my stock lariat), one thing I noticed is that the 2.7L HATES highway speeds over 70 mph. Anything over 70 I get anywhere from 18-19.5. But, as soon as I drop to 69 or lower and cruise I can get 22-25. It's wild lol
Mine isn't too bad in that regard. 2.7L FX4 Lariat. On one trip from Montana to Nevada (around 900 miles) I got 24+ driving 80 all the time. On another trip from Vegas to Flagstaff and back (200'0' to 7000' and back) I got around 23 and it was windy all the way up there. Doing 80 on that trip too.

The thing that mine doesn't like is short trips, around town, with lots of stops and accelerations. That'll get me into 16-17mpg if that's all I'm doing.

I wonder if elevation has anything to do with it? Where I live in SD it's 3500ft and is also pretty hilly with lots of up and down going across I90. That with 80 MPH kills my MPG. However, I'm currently in Grand Forks ND for work and its like 500ft and much flatter. My MPG's get a little better here. What gas do you run? 87 or 91?

Tracking MPG since day 1 and after 24,755 miles mostly highway daily driving to/from work I am at 20.76 MPG and average highway speed is about 70mph. I'd do a test at 65 for a month but my commute is already 40 minutes each way and don't want to make it longer :)

I go back and forth on gasoline. In Vegas gas 91 is kind of expensive so I usually go 87 unless I happen to be at Costco. If I'm somewhere out of state that has 91 for about what I pay for 87, I'll go 91.

2024 Ranger with 2.3L engine . I'm getting 24-26mpg everyday Normal driving mode.
On a long trip I got a mpg best of 27.5 in ECO mode,( but I hate ECO . It is too sluggish on hills.)
Anyone getting 14mpg needs to get their Ranger checked imo. :sunglasses:

Just purchased 2024 Ranger 3.2 ecoboost XLT FX4 4X4.
I was hoping for mpg numbers to be a little better. With 500 miles on it I'm averaging between 18.7 and 19 mpg. I live in the foothills (Auburn, Ca)
with elevation change from sea level to 2000ft. 19 mpg is the best I've gotten even going down hill with an average freeway distance of 20 miles. No long trips yet. Some other owners are reporting up to 25 mpg on thier freeway trips. I drive very concervitaly and have it in eco mode. Any thoughts?

On the side door says tire at 30 psi..
Increase psi to 33 psi cold and you’ll see the difference within couple of days of normal driving, especially highway driving..

25 xlt fx4 2.7l with 3300 miles on the meter. I went 80 miles to Albuquerque last weekend in eco mode and the cruise set at 77 and got 27.5 mpg for that leg of the trip. It’s roughly 1000 ft drop in elevation from my place to Albq, but have several long uphill stretches. On the return trip still in eco mode, the tank average dropped to 24.4 mpg.
Sport mode and normal mode both give me better mileage than eco mode with elevation increases or hilly terrain, even at 60 mph. Stop and go traffic, idling and running the truck to warm up the engine on cold mornings really kill the mpg.
Doing the math, not counting on the truck computer, I’m averaging 22.5-23.5 mpg over the miles I’ve driven to date. Still playing with different modes and different driving styles to see how high a mpg I can achieve, but it’s a new truck and sometimes you just have to say to heck with mpg’s, its time to play.

Yeah, I use normal mode for the hills and grades, on a nice flat highway area, eco mode and cruise is where it's at for the 2.7, excellent fuel economy.

I need to try eco mode again next time I'm in a flat area. I tried it on my usual drive once and it seemed to get worse mpg with all the hills we have around here.

Why would you ever put 87 in your 2.3? 91 is recommended by ford and is pretty much required for any turbo charged engine. They allow 87 because they have sensors to help prevent knock but you’re still putting a lot of extra wear on engine just to save a few bucks at the pump.
