Hey guys,

I have built my dream ranger and gone to the dealer to order it only to find out I can't actually order it with the Moonroof yet, the dealer literally doesn't have the option. I really wanted the Moonroof, but my dealer said it could be as late as Q4 if at all.

I know the Ford website says Late Availability Spring 2026 but does that mean cars will be ready in spring? or will only take orders/start getting built in Spring?

I wanted the moonroof with a Lariat trim because of the natural light it would bring in. Am I crazy to wait ?

What do you guys think?

Have you spent time in many Rangers? I have a sandstone interior and with the big windows I don't find the cabin dark at all.

I thought they were more about ventilation?
I just read OP's post: I wanted the moonroof with a Lariat trim because of the natural light it would bring in.

Yes it's mainly because of the light it brings in from above, and no I haven't spent a lot of time in rangers, just 3 test drives of various trims.

I do quite like the ventilation it also offers, but it is more about the light for me.

I am coming from a sedan if that helps with reference.

Does it have the interior cover so you can close out the sun if it gets too bright? (See, sunroof!)

The dealer wants you to order a car ASAP, so he’s going to be pessimistic. If it’s important to you, you should hold out. My best guess is that they’ll start shipping with sunroofs around July.

You are NOT crazy to wait. I have a '24 Ranger Lariat. I almost purchased a '24 Tacoma TRD Sport with moonroof and 6-speed manual. Every time I drive my Ranger, I am reminded that I don't have two options that I really wanted in a vehicle that stickered at $51,115. (I can live without the manual transmission.)

I suspect the moonroof will be coming job 2 which should start I am guessing in May based on the late start of Job 1 . Dealer saying maybe not at all is likely just wanting to try and push you into a sale sooner then later.

Does anyone have the actual 26 models production schedule. Curious what the actual date they are showing for job 2 . That’s when I fully expect the sunroof to come on line.

Getting a moonroof is really subjective. I understand having more light and open feel plus ventilation. You should also weight it against some common concerns. Potential leaks or drainage issues, more mechanical parts that can fail and heat and insulation.

Consider two questions:

Do you actually use moonroofs/sunroofs often?
If not, the added complexity may not provide much benefit.

How long will you keep the truck?
The longer you keep a vehicle (10+ years), the more likely seals, drains, or motors will eventually need service.

For long-term ownership and maximum reliability: many people choose no moonroof simply because it eliminates another potential failure point.

My personal rule of thumb:
- Leased / short-term vehicle: get the moonroof
- 10+ year ownership vehicle: skip it

One other thing I'll add:

Structural rigidity and off-road durability

The Ranger is built on a body-on-frame platform, so the roof isn’t the primary structural component like it is on unibody cars. However:

- Trucks without a moonroof have a slightly stronger and simpler roof structure.
- Trucks with a moonroof require a large cutout reinforced with a frame.

In normal driving this doesn’t matter, but for:

- off-roading
- heavy chassis flex
- long-term durability

The solid roof is technically stronger and quieter.

One of the benefits of a truck is I think better visibility versus a sedan.

and that also lets in more light

i have light seat covers and i also find there is plenty of light in the ranger

you don’t want it too bright or else you can’t see the displays

but If it is your dream truck I would wait and I would expect you will be able to order in a few months. I would not expect to see your truck until later in the year.

I like the concept of a moon/sun roof. I have owned several vehicles with moon/sun roofs and I have failures with all of them within 5yrs, sometimes multiple failures. My last experience was with a Ford Escape that had around 25K miles and just out of the three year warranty. The inside roof shade/cover broke and even though I hade the Ford PremiumCARE ESP warranty they would not honor it as they said that part is considered trim. Since when is the inside slide not considered part of the sun roof?!!!

My advise is avoid them all together so you wont have to deal with leaks, wind noise and repair cost. I for one was happy that the top trim of the Ranger (Raptor) did not come with a mandatory sun roof.
