3.0 Ford Performance steering rack & tie rods upgrade

I will be updating this post in a few weeks with instructions on how to install the heavy duty 3.0 steering rack on Ranger raptors. I was the first guy to ever do this with the Bronco and came up with the "rack hack" programming features Everyone used for the upgrade.

The bronco raptor steering rack will work in the ranger raptor. It has a stronger design, bigger internal bushings, bigger electric motor, And also stronger tie rods.

the swap is straightforward and takes a couple hours. the Programming will require FDRS and forescan and takes about 1 hour.

The non-raptor Bronco failing rods problem was on the 1.0 rack? or same rack as the Ranger Raptor?

Correct! Ranger raptors got the wimpy 14mm tie rods and weak 1.0/2.0 rack....the 3.0 is 30% stronger , and has beefier internals and has 16mm tie rods

On my bronco half cab, I've been running the hoss 3.0 Ford Performance rack and tie rods 50,000 miles on 40s...no issues so far! We will be upgrading our ranger raptor steering at the end of the summer

Where can you buy this. I am interested since I do want to upgrade my tires to 37" in the near future.

Evne tho I've never broken a tie rod, the bushings inside the racks are under-engineered and completely fail.


I recently upgraded rhe Bronco to the billet steering rack from 74Weld, and I'm glad I did, as you can see the wear from 50,000 miles is severe!

Will be doing a 74Weld steering rack on our Ranger raptor in the very near future!

The 74 weld rack is nice. But what about the Ford internals holding up over time. That is the bigger question? Will the beefy rack housing just shift the problem elsewhere, only time will tell.

the other components are adequate...the pinion is strong and the electrical motor is heavy duty as well. the steering knuckle itself is probably the next weak link after 74weld rack and HD tierods...

I got FMI fabricated knuckles from a F150 Raptor to install on the Bronco for this reason...74weld portals come with a HD knucke as well...
