Well I got it to the dealership, they were the only ones who could get to it today… but for “issues” such as the boost leak, they say they take 24-48 hrs to diagnose the issue.. so I will have to take it back to them on Tuesday to address that

Ouch, I just did my 30k service myself which included all you listed plus front differential and transfer. Total was 265.00. Transmission pan drop was a pain but save big $$.
I would check diff levels when they finish. My rear diff was 1 qrt low

Thank you for the heads up! I’m slowly getting more comfortable working on it. Started changing my own oil after I got the rival engine skid and a ronin oil plug. What resources did you use for the transfer case flush? Or you’re just a gearhead and can figure that stuff out? Also, after they diagnose the turbo issue and the power outlet gremlins, I won’t be taking it back to any dealership so I’m okay with the final gut punch to my wallet, but I’m envious of your ability to do so much without that kind of cost.

I was blessed that my father was a B52 bomber mechanic in the airforce and taught me everything. If you can change your oil you can do your diffs and transfer case. Basically a drain plug and a fill plug. Fill until it starts dripping out the fill hole. Ranger manual tells you what fluid type and amounts.
Transmission is a little more involved but not hard, just messy.

This makes filling diffs/transfer easy!

Hey I really appreciate your insight, definitely going to order that!

last question, are there any unique sae or metric sizes that you’re aware of for the diff and transfer case (or any other maintenance)? I have mostly sae for larger sockets (1/2 - 1-1/4) and both sae (5/32-9/16) and metric (4 - 14mm) basic socket set and I buy them as I come across them (15mm for skid plates, 27mm for oil filter)

or if you know of a thread/resource where this is discussed could you please pass it along?

thanks again for everyone’s input

Here’s a small video of the turbo noise I was talking about, hopefully audio transfers with the video.

I have a similar if not the same sound. I'm going to pay attention to it and see if it's all the time or intermittent.

Yeah? Did you change anything before it started? Or just one day it began?

While I am quite the novice on engines, especially turbocharged ones, if they performed an upper intake cleaning (see above services ie: “GDI”, would that not have had any interaction with the air intake and turbos that they wouldn’t have seen or heard anything? I think I need to take a video of the boost levels because it has to correlate to a loss right?

All you need for the diff/transfer plugs is a 3/8 drive ratchet. Goes right in the square hole in the plug.

So on my drive home this evening the sound is definitely the same as yours. I’m not sure what the stock boost targets are. But if this is a boost leak I want to find it. I guess I’m going to research “how to find a boost leak”… I hate the idea of going to the dealer for anything.

Sorry man, if I find out from the dealership what it is I’ll let you know, if you find out a way to fix it without the dealership please let me know

Yeah, let me know what they say. I’m curious if what we have is isolated or more common?
